We Still Can't Help It If We're From Florida Compilation 7"

i really love compilations. you get introduced to some really great bands and wish you could hear more from them. then on the flip side there are really bad bands that you wish you never hear again. this 7" compilation however is actually pretty great all the way through. this was the second installment of the florida compilations and it was made in 1992 on Burrito records. tons were pressed because they said that they always wanted there records to be cheap and easy to buy. i really enjoy their thoughts and because of them you can pick this up for around $2.50. this release comes with a fantastic large insert. check it out in the scans.

now on this 7" there is a mix of old and newer bands, well new for the 90's. this comp starts with an EBS track and i honestly thought it was from the 80s. nope, it's a song off of their 1991 release, crazy. next is a song from No Fraud which is awesome. No Fraud's first 7" from 1986 is great. Slap of Reality were a new band as you can probably tell by the sounds of it. it's not bad actually but doesn't fit in with the other songs at all. then Backwash deliver my favourite track on here. the track is from a 3 song demo they did. it sounds very similar to Sin 34. Maggot Sandwich are next. their first two releases are what made them one of my favourite bands. however these two tracks are pretty bad and don't sound anything like the Maggot Sandwich i know. well a Florida punk comp wouldn't be complete without Roach Motel. the song they supply was an unreleased one given to the label by the guitarist on a cassette. then Chickenhead give a pretty great little track. they released only one 7" in the year of my birth 1993. and lastly an obscure song by Milk and Cookies. i doubt they were even a real band. just listen to the 1 second song.

a-side
1. E.B.S.-Police Pricks 5/5 (sounds old.)
2. No Fraud-Identity Crisis 5/5 (love the vocals.)

b-side
2. Maggot Sandwich-Fuck That Funk 0/5 (i love funk.)
3. Maggot Sandwich-Hambone Of The Gods 3/5 (originally called Led Zeppelin sucks.)

overall: 7/10 recommended
a pretty great comp overall. the only bad songs are all over in 5 seconds anyway. so yeah, check out the awesome insert in the scans.

School Jerks-3rd EP 7"

since i posted the other School Jerks 7"s, i thought i'd post this then too. if you don't know already School Jerks are one of my favourite bands out there and the best out of the great city of Toronto. i'm wearing one of the shirts i got from them right now. just great punk music. this was recorded in 2010 and released this year by Cowabunga records. 100 on clear vinyl, which is the one scanned here, i've also got the black vinyl (i'd like to get this clear black swirl version which there was only like 8 that came out like that, from Nick's store). they are in the works on a 12" which you know is gonna be great after their demo, three 7"s and a split tape they have already released which were all great. nothing will ever beat their first 7" for me, but this 7" is right behind it. Ivan the drummer has a different band called Kremlin which are really quite good as well. you can read more about them and the School Jerks at the site linked here (their blog). nothing else to say, 6 great songs with only one song over a minute long, now listen and buy it.

a-side
1. screamer 5/5 (great opener.)
2. control 5/5 (flying by.)
3. ready to die 5/5 (yeah.)

b-side
1. ugly minds, ugly faces 4/5 (good song.)
2. moral addiction 5/5 (this is the winner. best song on here!)
3. 4-F 4/5 (longest song.)

overall: 9/10 strongly recommended
as you can see it's more great artwork by Tara Bursey. she has done the artwork for all the 7"s and stuff. wondering if she is working on the 12" design. on the inside of the 7" sleeve is the lyrics to Ugly Minds, Ugly Faces, but only that song. check it out in the scans.

Retainers-Teenage Regrets 7"

now for some more of the Retainers. before i praised them with their Waste of Time 7" (which by the way does have one of my favourite tracks of all time on it). and like that 7", this record was released on Fashionable Idiots out of Minnesota. this one being 3 years previous to the other in 2006. the Retainers play really distorted garage punk stuff. this 7" is really distorted opposed to there others, (i feel). this has been pressed twice and i have the second press. they have released a few 7"s and a 12". if anyone knows where to get that 12", let me know, cause it's sold out everywhere i look. the first track is a real good one. the last track has a real surf vibe to me, must be the guitar.

a-side
1. teenage regrets 5/5 (yell! catchy.)
2. zombie caliente 2.5/5 (not my favourite.)

b-side
1. kill my boss 3/5 (pretty good.)
2. blue jean attack 5/5 (surf!)

overall: 6/10 recommended
i get these guys and the Sinks mixed up so much. anyway you can buy from the link above. the cover actually is more of a reddish colour but came out pink for some reason.

U.X. Vileheads-Catch 22 EP 7"

now for some new punk from Sweden. the band plays some great hardcore punk and just keep getting better and better. the UX Vileheads have released another 7" (which was good too) along with this one. this one was released in 2010 on both Sorry State (USA) and Adult Crash (i think Denmark). they just released a 12" and i've heard a few tracks from it, they sound great. i'll have to buy that new 12" sometime. i just found a great blog about there band that the singer updates. THIS is the link. you can buy stuff from them including some sweet looking shirts.

a-side
1. catch 22 5/5 (great song, come out flying.)
2. kill for peace 3/5 (a bit slower.)

b-side
1. down again 5/5 (builds, then goes nuts.)
2. no salvation 5/5 (great vocals.)

overall: 8/10 strongly recommended
buy it from Sorry State (link above).

Fresh Cuts and Cigarette Burns Compilation 7"

(((i had this post sitting here for a while, just never uploaded the tracks to archive.org)))
time for 7" comp. i believe this is from 2009 or maybe it's from 2010. i don't know. there is no info in this. only the Criminal IQ website, that's the label it was released on. there is only a one-sided page for the sleeve. and a small insert. the song titles are on front. just look at the scans. anyway about the music. i bought this because it had White Load on it. never-mind, i won't go into all the bands, just listen and find out what this sounds like.
1. FNU Ronnies-ain't no place 4/5 (fuzzed out.)
2. Sick Jump!-fuck kids 4/5 (for someone who likes harsh vocals. nice track.)
3. Kill the Hippies-no control but dance control 4/5 (song kicks in out of nowhere.)
4. The Curtains-hidden agenda 5/5 (my favourite track.)
5. White Load-nothing is funny 3.5/5 (similar to the sound of tracks on their first 7".)
6. Flying Trichecos-recidivist 1/5 (drudge, not my thing.)
overall: 6.5/10 recommended
this little 7" has some good songs on it. the main reason for uploading this is because it was limited to 300 and was sold-out of CIQ's store, but they just got a few back from a distro. so go to the site above and buy it before it's gone for good.

Mean Jeans-EP 7"

yes, Mean Jeans are great. apparently they play ramones-style punk, but i really don't see it. these guys are just always having a great time. as shown in most of there lyrics. as well as some videos they have made. that's what i love about this band. love love love love love it. it was limited to 500. on slime green vinyl and my copy even comes with a sticker. here we go, an already rare record. released in 2008 on Rehab records out of Seattle and impossible to find. and when you do find them, they go for over $50. luckily i got mine from a guy for half of that, great guy. anyway, they have released a couple other 7"s and a 12", all great. so everybody download this and make them your new favourite band.
1. stoned to the bone 5/5 (huge.)
2. total creep 5/5 (great, and another newer version of this song is on their 12".)
3. invisible bugs 5/5 (shout it.)
4. wtfa401k 5/5 (great short song.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
can't find this anywhere to buy so search.

Night Birds-EP 7"

(((re-post from April 29/2010@8:32pm)))
(((this is a re-post cause Night Birds are awesome and they deserved a better rip. also cause someone was looking for this 7" so i figured i give him the best rips i can, hope he comments. listening to these rips compared to my old ones, there a few more crackles this time. now read what i wrote a while ago.)))

RAMONES SUCK!! but anyway. i always start a post with "time for some," and i've got nothing better to say so, time for some new hardcore punk/surf. this was released in april of this year, so i just received it in the mail. the great thing about this record is the presentation. all 500 records were hand made, hand cut and hand stamped. that's why the title is a little faded. lyrics and stuff at bottom. i bought this for only $4.50 at Grave Mistake records. get the download then go over there and buy it. it's all gold, too me. definitely the best 7" of the year so far. notice the similar sound of The Gift Givers song and the circle jerk's song World Up My Ass. i love the second track Thrilling Murder. the lyrics are about how the human-race is useless and they should all be killed. great stuff.
1. prognosis: negative 5/5 (great.)
2. thrilling murder 5/5 (best song, fast and great lyrics.)
3. unanswerable 5/5 (nice.)
4. the gift givers 5/5 (vocals are great.)
5. harbor rats 5/5 (instrumental surf song, and great.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
this was released on Grave Mistake records and with the small press run it's going to go fast. so get yours today, and get tons of other stuff they have.

The Boy Toys-Girls Like You 7"

well before i get back to punk, here is a nice little Beatles style 7". almost powerpop. i have no info on this band except that they are from Indiana and you can contact them here. i just bought this because it was cheap and i liked the cover. this was released in 2009 on Spin The Bottle records. i'm not sure what's going on with that label these days. i really have nothing else to say. this is a great record. love the vocals.
1. girls like you 5/5 (love it.)
2. i want you 5/5 (great.)
3. black and blue and grey 4/5 (slower song, but good.)
overall: 9/10 strongly recommended
don't worry i'll post some Neos or something next for you hardcore fans. but take a seat and listen to this little gem for now.

The Neckties-Skating With A Boner 7"

yes i haven't been around lately but i'll be posting up some more records more regularly again. starting with a record that doesn't really get any credit. released on one of my favourite record labels, (headman by Nickolai of The Imposters) Secret records in 2008. great mostly fast paced newer skate punk. the thing i like about the insert for this record is that it says (back in 2008) that there is a new 7" release by boogie nazis coming out. that 7" never happened. it reminds me of reading through touch and go zines saying that a bored youth 7" would be coming out, that never happened either. anyway, the neckties are gonna release some new stuff sometime this year, so look out for that. just download and enjoy!
1. skating with a boner 5/5 (my favourite track.)
2. let us skate 5/5 (nice.)
3. shitty surf 4/5 (good.)
4. tech is over 4/5 (don't like the chorus but i love the rest.)
5. salsa and chips 5/5 (great guitar riff.)
6. city 5/5 (great!)
7. so what 4/5 (good too.)
8. sscgc 2.5/5 (meh.)
overall: 8/10 strongly recommended
you can buy this from Nickolai from the link above. speaking of The Imposters, my label is under works for a "first four years" tape of them. featuring some tracks from albums and some unreleased stuff. coming soon on Foreign Fish.

Brain F≠-So Dim 7"

ok i know i said i would do a Boogie Nazis post and i might still do that toady but for now here is something else. it's been busy right now for me so that's why i've been lacking on the posts. this is not a complete post but still great. Alex at Grave Mistake Records left a comment here wondering if i wanted this 7". so he sent me a couple free records, which i am ever greatly for. the occasion was the release of this 7". i think it officially can out a few days ago. i am a big Brain F≠ fan. they used to be called Brain Flannel but i don't what happened, i guess they just made it shorter, i don't know. anyway, the tape they released some time ago blew me away. the combined vocals and great hooks caught my eye. i'll talk more about that tape when i eventually post it. so back to this, it's got two great songs on it. one being my favourite BF track from their tape "symptom set." i have included a download of this 7"s version (it's different from the tape version). as a help towards the label i will not post the other song. you will need to buy it hear "so dim." come on, you know you need to get every Grave Mistake record anyway. 100 on red vinyl.
1. so dim 5/5 (great.)
2. symptom set 5/5 (love this song.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
first great release by Grave Mistake this year, and many more to come. here is the band's site: Vices Sins, Blood Runs Cold. they have made up new shirts too, but aren't available yet, but i'm first in line. anyway buy this 7" from the links i gave you. thanks again Alex.

Retainers-Waste Of Time 7"

so what's in the news today. well the label ScotchTapes out of ontario has a singles club. which i signed up for. ever 4 weeks i will get a new tape. one of the tapes includes The White Wires. i can't wait for that one. he made up some shirts for his label and he messed up on one. he said it wasn't good enough to sell. so i snagged it for free. thanks Al. now onto the short post.
possibly my two favourite tracks of 2009. such a great band. this was released on Fashionable Idiots. Retainers have released some great 7"s and a 12". "waste of time" is from the 12" but put on a 7" first. i have not heard the 12" so if anyone can give me a link to where i can buy it, that would be great. i will get back to old punk in the new post. right now i thought i'd just post a quick one here. it is really great little gem.
1. waste of time 5/5 (so fantastic.)
2. die baby die 5/5 (chorus is great.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
buy this from the link above, Andy at fashionable idiots. i bought a whack of other 7"s from him.

The White Wires-WWII 12"

..............(still holding my breath)...............THE WHITE WIRES!
here you have it, the greatest release of 2010 (posted on the first day of 2011). The White Wires are from Ottawa. they have released some 7"s and a 12" on Going Gaga records. it was limited to 300 and now goes for big money. it was however re-issued on Douchemaster records, but even they have sold out of it. other distros still have it though for cheap. anyway, this is great all the way through. it's so catchy. a lot more drive then on their first LP. great gritty production on this one. this was released on Dirtnap records. 800 on black vinyl and 200 on white vinyl. i ordered the black vinyl because i like it better then coloured vinyl, but they sent me the white anyway. oh well. they are sold out of the white edition, and in quite a short time. no, i wasn't lazy and just used the download card's download. this is ripped straight from the vinyl. nothing else to say, this is essential.
1. let's go to the beach 5/5 (hooks, so catchy.)
2. roxanne 4.5/5 (just a bit weaker, but still great.)
3. did you forget my name 5/5 (vocals.)
4. i can tell 5/5 (i love the chorus.)
5. just wanna be with you 5/5 (chorus again.)
7. popularity 5/5 (great.)
8. hands 5/5 (such great vocals.)
9. are you mad 5/5 (fastest song, great drumming.)
10. outta my mind 5/5 (good.)
11. summer girl 5/5 (good too.)
12. bye bye baby 5/5 (nice instrumental song.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
buy this from the Dirtnap link above. it is a must. happy new year by the way. my main watch for the new year is the Night Birds LP. and i was talking to Isaac of The Reactions and he said to me that they are going to re-issue their two 7"s, "Official Release" and "Love You." powerpop gems.

The Busy Signals-Can't Feel A Thing 7"

well i hope everyone out there had a good Christmas. i did. i got an external sound card so that i can use my laptop to rip records. instead of having to haul out the desktop computer and take a half hour to just set it up. anyway, here's a gift from me to you. it's the new single from The Busy Signals. well it was new in 2006. the circle on the cover is actually a sticker. this was released on Shit Sandwich records. here is some great KBD style punk from one of the best current bands doing it. they released another 7" and also a great 12" on Dirtnap. two great songs are here. the flipside being the better track. great female fronted vocals. i am a sucker for the female punk vocals, you might like this too Dave G. i'll keep this short cause i have to go listen to my new Rip-Off Compilation that i got from my brother. see you.
1. can't feel a thing 5/5 (nice.)
2. all the time 5/5 (best track.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
buy this from the link above and you can also get a free unknown 7" with it. enjoy!

Night Birds-Midnight Movies Tape

here is something from November 2010 that is already out of print. it's the new Night Birds cassette. this was going to be a 7" on No Way records but the vinyl wasn't ready for their tour so they made a tape of it. they put some on their merch site and it was all bought up pretty quickly. luckily i was fast enough to get one. this is still going to be released in 7" format, but not until the new year, i believe. i'm not sure how many were pressed but they came in a great case, one that doesn't crack so easily like those other plastic ones. i finally got a good rip of a tape, well i think it sounds pretty good. i'll be posting another great tape in the future. anyway back to this. fast punk surf with great vocals. not as classic as their first 7" but still very good. "bad biology" should have been the first track. that's just what i feel. on the cover "night birds" is coloured in with a highlighter, but it doesn't show up on the scanner (just like the fluorescent spray-painted Chronic Disorder 7"). i took a picture of the cover with my camera so you can see the highlighted cover in the "scans."
1. midnight movies 5/5 (chorus really reminds me of "Denim Demon".)
2. no way home 5/5 (nice.)
3. bad biology 5/5 (great great great song!)
4. triple feature 5/5 (nice ender.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
night birds are just a great band all around. get this when it comes out in 7" format on No Way. they are finishing up recordings for an LP. i can't tell you how much i'm psyched about that. in June they are coming up to Canada, can't wait for that too! oh and on a side note, i have heard the elliott is back. i hope he gets a post up soon.

Sinks-Beat Out My Brains 7"

well Dave G. at the great Rocket Science just posted another classic out of his collection, so i thought i'd do the same. yes this is only 2 years old, but it is a classic. great garage punk from 2008. the Sinks have released other 7"s which are great too, but not as much as this. this was released on the dynamite label, Fashionable Idiots. i just bought about 9 records from their distro. anyway, this was pressed twice. first with 3 different covers limited to 600. then second limited to 100. i like the cover variant with them eating pizza on the street with Little Caesar a lot more then i one i have. the one i have is pretty hard to read (because of the font). but the worst thing is that the record sleeve is filthy. the black ink smears, that's why you'll see smudges on my copy. also that's why i left it in the plastic sleeve to scan it. but it doesn't take away from the sound. great vocals, great riffs, great everything. catchy as hell. enjoy!
1. beat out my brains 5/5 (vocals.)
2. don't wanna go to work 5/5 (guitar.)
3. 3025 5/5 (yes.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended

Brutal Knights-Life Ain't Cool 7"

i just heard No Way Fest 4 is cancelled, that sucks. anyway on with life. well in honour of canadian thanksgiving, here you have one of canada's best bands. most people like this band for the humorous lyrics. while that is an attractive element, i just think all their songs are really catchy. they have released some great records, with this being my favourite. this band has great production on all of their records. great vocalist. just another great band from Toronto. this was released on the great Riff Raff records, #2 (school jerks first 7" is #5). i love how the riff raff labels on records look. look at the scans. 2007 the year was. first press on black vinyl, found here, and second press on green vinyl. they just released some new record not to long ago.
1. life ain't cool 5/5 (when everything comes together it's huge.)
2. burlesque is horseshit 5/5 (just great.)
3. fake youth 5/5 (yes.)
4. teach me sex 5/5 (loud.)

The Throwaways/Spastic Panthers Split 7"

first off i'd like to say i've got 285 comments. i was surprised. also looking back at some downland, and the download counts are pretty high (for what i think). thanks to all who comment. you know who you are. i also have 3 followers now. keep downloading and commenting! anyway that's done. so by looking at the two covers you may think why the hell did they do a split. well i have no idea. a powerpop (yes it is) band and a brutal hardcore band. well they did it. both bands from alberta, canada and released on Handsome Dan records on april 21th of this year. my favourite is the Throwaways side. two females and a male on drums. then you have Spastic Panthers who i'm not too into. i don't know what it is but i just can't get into them. maybe you'll like em, who knows? the Throwaways side is heavy stereo. i much prefer mono. i do. well now the music.
The Throwaways
1. mikey erg! 5/5 (great melody.)
2. pterodactyl clap 5/5 (nice.)
3. summer song 5/5 (might destroy your left ear.)
4. got a problem? 5/5 (great song.)

Spastic Panthers
1. (i'm gonna) punch you in the dink 1/5 (not a fan of the lyrics.)
2. volatile 1/5 (meh.)
3. outta control 1/5 (nah.)
4. political song for dan izzo to sing 2.5/5 (only good song on this side, for me.)
overall: 5/10 meh recommended
first side is great but the other side isn't. get this from Handsome Dan records, the link is above.

yes another band i found out about through the School Jerks Myspace site. great band from Montreal, along with Omegas. i got this from the band. it was originally released as a tape demo in 2009. then in 2010 they released it on a 7". whether in tape or vinyl, this record kills. good old fast punk. they also have shirts out, damn i should have got one!! lyrics included. get the scans. nothing else to say.

Negative Lifestyle-EP 7"

back to posting mode. here we go. well these guys and School Jerks just released a split tape, which i still haven't got yet, but i need it! anyway i learned of these guys through the School Jerks myspace site. they had this band as a friend and i clicked on them. listened to the demo tracks (i remember i was at school and it was lunch) and saw that they were making a 7". YES! their demo tracks were great. i couldn't wait for the 7". but i did and a couple months ago they released this on Bat Shit records (i bought my school jerks demo tape from them too). so i bought the alternate version with this x-ray cover thing, 7 out of 69, download the scans to see it. the cover above is another alternate. two inserts. uk style 7" hole, i guess. greatly put together. i think there were only 300 pressed but tons of different colours. anyway, great fast pace hardcore punk. great vocals and hooks. this and the Night Birds 7" are the best releases of the year so far. will be hard to top this. the band found out about this blog and said they'd be honored to be on here. well thanks! site.
1. no system 5/5 (great opener.)
2. hangover anxiety 5/5 (best song!)
3. in a crowd 5/5 (fantastic.)
4. same walls 5/5 (i think it was the first song i heard of them.)
5. brainwashed 5/5 (nice end.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
get this now! Bat Shit Records to buy it! buy the school jerks stuff too at the same time.
thanks to NL for checking this out. they said "oh thanks alot, we just read it and we love it, /Anders." thanks again guys!

Government Warning-No Moderation 12"

alright what has it been, a week since the last post. well i'm here now. man i go to sleep at 4 in the mourning now, because i'm up all night reading. i just bought Please Kill Me and that's the book that's making me wake up late. also mrr. i still like that zine. speaking of zines i just bought Ripper #6. it was released in 1981 and is the best zine ever. it has a great review section and interviews. zines are great!
anyway i thought i'd post a new record. why? because this rips. i posted one of their 7"s before. well this is their first 12" and it sounds more like their other releases. just the Arrested 7" has chunky sound. great fast pace hardcore punk. released in 2006 on Feral Ward records. lots of presses (i have the first). can't understand most of what he says but when i read the lyrics the first time, it seemed more clear, funny how that works. well i scanned the big sheet so you all can read the lyrics (download the scans). now i'll shut my yap (mainly cause it's 1:03am).
1. no moderation 5/5 (great song.)
2. jocks and cops 5/5 (nice.)
3. cutting room floor 4/5 (cough.)
4. fat nation 5/5 (always my favourite by them. fantastic chorus, catchy.)
5. self medication 5/5 (great album.)
6. trend city 4/5 (yes.)
7. slave labor 5/5 (great guitar riff, fast a f**k too.)
8. power keg 4/5 (what drum beat is that?)
9. see the truth 4/5 (wow.)
10. sick of home 5/5 (nice ender.)
overall: 9/10 strongly recommended
get this, it's everywhere. i'm tired, now i'm off to read Please Kill Me.
