Strike-Radio Songs/Teenage Rebel EP 7"

well what we have here is a classic punk 7". this Belfast band released this 7" in 1980 by Shock Rock and was sadly their sole release. it was limited to 500 back then. too bad they never did anything else but this cause these two powerpop songs are some of the catchiest ever. the band did recreate once but with a female singer and they didn't go much original material. there is a great write up of the band on the Sing Sing blog. in fact this was re-issued by the label Sing Sing records in 2010. that whole label is just amazing. every release they do is a killer. however, this 7" is one of the few that is out of print from there site. just by looking at this cover you know it's gonna be great. i like the little symbol in the cover that they changed from Shock Rock to Sing Sing seamlessly. so if you haven't heard of this, get it now, it's a must. it's hard to chose which song is better, but i think i like the flip side the best.

a-side
1. radio songs 5/5 (so great! love the vocalist.)

b-side
1. teenage rebel 5/5 (sooooo catchy.)

overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
as i said before, it is out of print. so get it from Sorry State or something. and look i got the scans back up and running. check out the great artwork below. i am even going to add the artwork on the actual tracks ala Killed By Death Records (if you haven't noticed by now, this site is heavily influenced by that site).

Bored Teenagers Volume 3 Compilation 12"

yes the long over due compilation post. well sorry it took me so long but i finally got this up for you luka. well, here it is now. the bored teenagers comps include only british punk from 77-82 and are the best comps i have ever heard in my life. almost all the tracks on every comp are great. all the comps were released by Bin Liner records and are still pumping them out as we speak. they are up to five now. all are out of print and limited to 500. well i think you can still get the newest one. head over to the Bored Teenagers site and you will get tons and tons of info on all the bands on these comps, including pictures. now listen to these fantastic tracks. most tracks are from demo tapes or 7"s. oh and all these comps include nice thick bootlegs too. greatly assembled with care.
1. the perfectors-YT502951D 5/5 (fantastic opener.)
2. the perfectors-mysterons 4/5 (nice slower track.)
3. the perfectors-new wave news 5/5 (great. so catchy.)
4. the injectors-frustration 2.5/5 (decent.)
6. xpress-all dressed up (no war to go) 5/5 (great driving stuff.)
7. xpress-what ever happened to fashion 5/5 (fucked up at the beginning where it skips a little bit, only re-up upon request.)
8. street people-personal values 5/5 (love this song.)
9. quality drivel-sale of the century 5/5 (my favourite band on this comp.)
10. quality drivel-subliminal cuts 5/5 (love the chorus.)

The Zips-EP 7"

well i'm still undecided on if i'll stop this blog or not. for now i present you with a classic 7". i first heard these guys on the Bored Teenagers comp #2 and found out that Sing Sing had re-issued their 7". so i bought it up in TO. their are four songs in total and they are all great! the original 7" was released by Black Gold records in 1978 i believe. limited to 500. not sure what the re-issue was limited to, but it is sold-out from the label. the music is great KBD style punk. really catchy stuff. great vocals. they have released another 7" but i haven't heard it yet. as you can probably tell from the vocals, they are from the UK. enjoy!
1. take me down 5/5 (love when they say "take me down, down, down, down.")
2. don't be pushed around 5/5 (favourite track. great guitar opening.)
3. i'm in love 5/5 (awesome.)
4. over and over 5/5 (great!)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
as i said before it's sold-out from the label so i guess pick it up from another distro or something.

Wasteland-Want Not 7"

time for me to post my own KBD classic. thanks to those who guessed. i really think this is absolute gold KBD punk. ever since i got the Back To Front Vol.3 comp from Mat, i've been playing "ono" nonstop. i tried looking for it forever but with no result. never on ebay or anything. finally, in December of last year, CollectorScum was having a set sale on the Terminal Boredom forum (which right now i am banned from). so i skimmed the list and found this. i was amazed. on closer inspection, i found out that it was a copy with original vinyl and no sleeve. but he said that he would supply a xerox of his original sleeve. so yeah, i got it for cheap and it's basically the exact same as the original. this originally being released in 1979 on Disaster records. super catchy punk. so i'll keep this short and let the music do the talking. get this now.
1. ono 5/5 (one of my favourite songs of all time.)
2. bombsite baby 5/5 (great vocals.)
3. our radio nation burns 4/5 (good.)
overall: 9.5/10 strongly recommended
CollectorScum might still have a copy, but i'm not sure. that's the only place i know where to go to buy one of these.

Poppees-Jealousy/She's Got It 7"

here's one for all you fellow early Beatles lovers. this is basically The Beatles but with the Poppees own twist on things. released on the ever great BOMP! records in 1978. i'm not sure where these guys were from but i think it was New York. they weren't around for long but they released two 7"s. this is the second one. the first one has the amazing song "if she cries." i wish i had that 7", but in due time, i will get my hands on it. anyway, on this 7" there are two great songs. there is a demo version of "jealousy" which is just as great, but in a different way. don't you love the way the BOMP! labels on the records look. well i certainly do. nothing really else to say except that i wanted to post this cause it is so great. well that really didn't need to be said but whatever.
1. jealousy 5/5 (so great that even my dad loves it!)
2. she's got it 5/5 (great too. listen closely at the end, very end he yells, "whoo!" i love it.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
you can still buy this from BOMP! for only $5. that's right, only $5! BOMP! also released a LP/CD of the Poppees called "pop goes the anthology" which has both singles, demo tracks (like the one mentioned above) and live tracks. it is well worth the money too. while you're at it, check out the Boyfriends, 20/20 and Jim Basnight releases that BOMP! did as well. they are pure greatness.

The Germs-EP 7"

(((re-post from Nov. 10/2009@7:16pm)))
(((well this one's for elliott. i'll tell my story in a bit. first i remember when i posted this. way back in 2009 when i started posting lots of stuff. lately i haven't been posting much, but that is gonna change. for some reason i'm loving posting stuff at the moment. i can't believe that KBD only posted 2 times in 2 months. anyway back to this site. so the way i acquired this was from a trade. i traded elliott some cds for this 7". pretty good trade if you ask me. all he wanted was for me to post it. so that's what i am doing here with this re-post. so once you are finished with the funk i just posted, get this. thanks elliott. now read what i said a couple years ago.)))

hey Dylan, here's your favourite album.
this has got to be one of the poorest productions ever. the sound quality is really bad, but great. a-side---good, b-side---bad. they are a good band and released some great stuff.
1. forming 5/5 (great song. great individual speaker thing. music left, vocals right.)
2. live 1/5 (this gets a 1 for that bottle smashing at the beginning.)
overall: 5/10 recommended (for germs fans.)
lots of obscure represses out their, so get that.

The Freeze-Live At Cape Cod 1980 12"

i can't remember the last time i posted a live album, if i even posted one at all. anyway here is one. it's snowing like a mad man out there and i've been shoveling all day. what does that have to do with this post, nothing. why am i telling you this, no idea. so i'll just jump into the post. The Freeze were a great band and everyone must know them. they released some other great stuff up until 87'. this record was released just after their first 7" and it is referred to by Clif in this Cape Cod set. this was recorded in 1980 onto a tape. from that tape, Schizophrenic records out of Hamilton released it on LP. so the quality isn't the best and the sound fades in an out but only a couple of times. the quality i think is very good from being from an old tape. so much drive on these recordings. screeching vocals which i love. great set. this is my personal favourite Freeze stuff. get it now. nothing else to say.
1. before i hit that rubber room 5/5 (yes they wrote this a long time ago and then included it on their 86' LP.)
2. the water tastes funny 4/5 (nice.)
3. they won't unlock the door 5/5 (amazing, my favourite track. great riff.)
4. my megawalki land 5/5 (vocals!)
6. one sixth of a person 5/5 (lyrics.)
7. don't forget me tommy 5/5 (with this version, it doesn't sound like a new wave song. such a great version.)
8. the duh family 2 4/5 (good.)
9. refrigerator heaven 4/5 (yes i spelled refrigerator wrong but who cares.)
10. i'm too good for you 5/5 (on 86' LP under a different name.)
11. leap from the ledge 5/5 (great gallop.)
12. uncle fred 5/5 (nice.)
13. rebels with a cause 5/5 (great great great chorus.)
14. skeletons in your closet 5/5 (fast.)
15. halloween night 4/5 (a 7" song.)
16. one way conversations 5/5 (great chorus too.)
17. they'll be trouble if you hide 5/5 (awesome song, so in your face!)
18. i hate tourists 5/5 (i wouldn't know.)
19. the duh family 4/5 (it is listed on the back as "So Long Ago" but i believe it is "The Duh Family.")
overall: 9.5/10 strongly recommended
buy this from the link above, they might have some left. this is a must have. 200 copies on swirl green and black, which i have. some with signed insert, not what i have. a great post for the new month.

The Busy Signals-Can't Feel A Thing 7"

well i hope everyone out there had a good Christmas. i did. i got an external sound card so that i can use my laptop to rip records. instead of having to haul out the desktop computer and take a half hour to just set it up. anyway, here's a gift from me to you. it's the new single from The Busy Signals. well it was new in 2006. the circle on the cover is actually a sticker. this was released on Shit Sandwich records. here is some great KBD style punk from one of the best current bands doing it. they released another 7" and also a great 12" on Dirtnap. two great songs are here. the flipside being the better track. great female fronted vocals. i am a sucker for the female punk vocals, you might like this too Dave G. i'll keep this short cause i have to go listen to my new Rip-Off Compilation that i got from my brother. see you.
1. can't feel a thing 5/5 (nice.)
2. all the time 5/5 (best track.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
buy this from the link above and you can also get a free unknown 7" with it. enjoy!

The Now-Into The 80's! - The 1978 Demos 12"

finally a night where i don't have tons of homework. so what does that mean for you. it means a post! here you go. i have to say that this must be rare because i can't find any info about it anywhere. i just was looking through the bins at Hits and Misses (they just moved right next to Rotate This!) and stumbled across this. i loved their 7", so i snagged this. when i put it on, oh it was good. this gets better every time i listen to it. this is GREAT! download the scans so you can see the only info that this album gives you. it has the track listing, pressing number and discography. this was released by Boot records in 2005. limited out of 461. mine is #442. i know it doesn't look like it but the cover is white. my poor camera quality, sorry but who's gonna complain. the front has a newspaper article from 77', well you can read it. the back is plain white. the record labels seem to be a bit handwritten. now about the music. the singer's voice is great, the drums are sloppy and great. now the quality is pretty good for demo tapes. the last three songs were recorded somewhere else so that's why that sound different. the songs are a bit lengthy but you don't even notice it. they fly by. yes, 5 minutes and 53 seconds flies by! now get it! enjoy!
"The T.W. Tapes"
1. into the 80's 5/5 (fantastic.)
2. the shape of things to come 5/5 (vocals, nice.)
3. third world war 5/5 (bass.)
4. why 5/5 (great vocals.)
5. you student 5/5 (punk rock!)
6. here it comes 5/5 (nice riff.)
7. nine o'clock 5/5 (always loved this song.)
"The Trunk Session"
8. woman's own 5/5 (nice.)
9. seven days ago 5/5 (different feel the b-side but i like it.)
10. the invaders 5/5 (long great ender. chorus is awesome.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
fantastic set of demos here. thanks Boot records, whoever you are.

The Queers-A Proud Tradition 7" 1982 & 1984 EPs

ok hard to believe this but it's my first music post of september. and for that i am sorry but hopefully this will make up for it. two great old 7"s put together in one package. but still two 7"s, not all together on some 12". this is original format. i reviewed the first queers 7" some time ago so visit that post for more useful info. these two records were originally released in 1982 and 1984 on Doheny records. 200 pressed of each and no picture sleeves. the first record had hand written sleeves, not sure on the second record though. well the package i'm presenting here is the re-issue. it was released in 1992 on Selfless records. includes discography insert, well of discog at the time. so the first record is pretty good, but it's all about the second one. their 1984 7" is one of my favourite records ever released, really! it's so catchy. great songs, great everything. great production. great backing vocals. these aren't the fastest records in the world, but it works so well at this tempo. just fantastic. enough yapping, get this now and blow your mind!
1982 EP:
1. we'd have a riot doing heroin 5/5 (all first three songs are linked together by "one two three four.")
2. terminal rut 5/5 (bass.)
3. fagtown 5/5 (vocals nice.)
4. i want it now 5/5 (short.)
5. trash this place 2/5 (weird, not my favourite.)
6. love me 2.5/5 (somebody talks the lyrics. too bad because the music itself is great. music=5, vocals=0, total=2.5.)
overall: 8/10 strongly recommended

(((DOWNLOAD: MUSIC---SCANS)))

1984 EP:
1. kicked out of the webelos 5/5 (what a great song. you'll be yelling it all night.)
2. tulu is wimp 5/5 (drums.)
3. at the mall 5/5 (mall's suck.)
4. i spent the rent 5/5 (great little song.)
5. don't wanna work 5/5 (great.)
6. i'm useless 5/5 (yes.)
7. this place sucks 5/5 (my favourite song. when that chorus hits and the backing vocals are singing too, oh man it great!)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
i can't began to say how much i love early queers. if i had a chose on what my band sounded like, it would be this!

The Absentees-S/T 7"

i posted this before but it was a short and bad post so let's call this a new post. well i found out about these guys from KBD. apparently only 106 pressed. the one i've posted is the remastered to bejesus re-issue. the original didn't come with anything. but the re-issue comes with an outer sleeve and lyrics to both songs. the vinyl is also red, check out the scans at the bottom. breakmyface has a great story on these guys. there is also a cd with a bunch of other songs, but it's cd. the sound is very different to that of the original. so check it out before you buy it. the b-side isn't remastered a whole lot but the a-side is much different.
1. tryin' to mess with me 5/5 (great!)
2. F.U.M. 1/5 (still not a fan.)
overall: 6/10 recommended (because of b-side)
a guy had it on ebay for $10. i asked him $5. now i own it for $5. that's my story, now download the record.

Black Flag-Jealous Again 12"

(((re-post from Sept. 18/09@7:58)))
(((i remember the day i posted this. it was right when i started the blog. i had forgotten about the blog for about 10 days then it hit my brain. it was my second review. i listened to about 80 records that night. also reviewed a ton of stuff that night. of all places i bought this record from amazon. yes there is a big black line across the cover of this record. must be the way i took the photo. maybe you have this, maybe you don't, something something something, i'm something something.)))

this isn't my favourite black flag release. call me crazy but i think chavo pederast was the best vocalist that black flag had, after morris. i liked henry garfeild when he was in s.o.a but not in black flag.
anyway this album is great. did anyone notice the last song is just "i don't care" with different lyrics.
1. Jealous Again 5/5 (best song on here. fast and tight.)
2. Revenge 5/5 (a-side is killer.)
3. White Minority 4/5 (not big on the lyrics.)
4. Values 4/5 (fast.)
5. You Bet I've Got Something Personal Against You! 2.5/5 (let chavos sing!! also the title is way to long.)
overall: 8/10 recommended (a least get a reissue. tons out there.)

Black Flag-Nervous Breakdown 7"

well i was waiting to post this for a long time. the reason being that i wanted to add the downloads. as you can see i have the 10" copy (same as my black flag six pack 10"). all the pictures seem gray but you can judge for yourself. i probably won't post the six pack record. it's alright but still. i remember when i bought that record. right when i put it on, i dropped the needle on it. i mean hard, really hard. it jumped all the way to the end so it doesn't affect play, but there is still a big gash.
well i just can back from party that my band was supposed to play at. not very many people showed up so we never even played. there was another band who did play, only 2 songs though. they played classic rock stuff. it was decent. my band wouldn't/couldn't match their musical talent, but i think we would have put on a more energetic show, if you know what i mean. we're playing in the near future, well hopefully.
so back to the record. everyone knows this, but it's getting posted anyway. is it the first hardcore punk record? no it isn't. the first hardcore record was the middle class's out of vogue 7". and nobody better say different. released in 1978 on SST records. time for the tracks.
1. nervous breakdown 5/5 (just golden.)
2. fix me 5/5 (nice.)
3. i've had it 4/5 (cool.)
4. wasted 5/5 (great but also check out the circle jerks version, fast as hell.)
overall: 9/10 strongly recommended
tons of different presses, colours and sizes. get the record and thrash it.

Insubordinates-1968/Rendezvous EP 7"

well the shipment of records i just got filled up the spot on my shelf where i put all my 7"s. so instead of cramming them all into the tiny spot (which i tried already) i decided to add a new shelf for them. all that's on it now are two crappy comps and a so-so record. soon it will be filled, i'm sure of it. well the False Prophets second 7" is already on it's way and i should get it sometime next week. i wish my post office worked on weekends. oh well, the guy down at the post office knows me know. i go there one a week. now when i leave he always says, "see you tomorrow zach!" we get a good laugh out of it, haha. haha, i think the last time i used haha in a post was way back on my first post/review ever, minor threat's first 7". anyway i think that's enough rambling for one post, more in the next post, haha (haha).
now here's what you came for, another record i was not aware of. i got this free from ryan of flat black records with my shipment. the shipment took a while to get but he threw in 5 free records and we were in communication the whole time, so i'm happy, very happy. i was very surprised when i spun this. not too fast but fast enough. released in 2008 on Feral Kid Records and CrotchRot Records. i believe these guys are from buffalo. i actually like the instrumental b-side better than the a-side. check it out.
1. 1968 4/5 (nice.)
2. rendezvous 5/5 (great no-vocal track.)
overall: 9/10 strongly recommended
see if it's your thing, then go buy it for pennies. i know you're sick of me saying this and frankly i am too, so from now on i'll just says scans (click on scans for scans, not those ones, the highlight scans, the word. well that made no sense).

Filth-EP 7"

(((re-post from Feb. 3/10@7:14pm)))
time for some more great dutch punk. man this 7" is flawless. great kbd sound. in their early stages, their live shows were chaotic. go here and read all the crazy stuff: FILTHY. it's a decent band website. i like that all their lyrics are available there. so, this was released at the end of march in 1978 on the dutch label Plurex. they are also found on the 4th KBD comp.
1. don't hide your hate 5/5 (great kbd classic.)
2. sex 5/5 (great music.)
3. nothing for me 5/5 (the underrated classic on this album. great vocals.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
best thing i've heard in a while. never reissued, so i assume this is really rare, so good luck. there is a bootleg thou. look out for the KBD comp 4, it's been reissued, much easier to get.

Ed Gein's Car-Brain Dead Baby 7"

(((re-post from Feb. 10/10@9:33pm)))
i originally said if anybody wants a download i would upload this. nobody commented, but i'll do it anyway. thanks to Mat for helping me on this one: "yeah the full length isn't as good as the 7". the 7" rocks all the way through. yeah the 7" came out in 84, the album was in 85. they changed their style up a bit. the 7" reminds me of early black market baby. -Mat" i had no idea about this band until Mat suggested it. now i can't stop playing it. i know nothing else about this band, or even this release. all i know is that it was released in 1984, it was a small pressing and they were from NY. but what i do know is that this is a sweet record. great KBD sound with great vocals. very catchy. what more can i say.
1. brain dead baby 5/5 (great song.)
2. too old to die young 4/5 (great song too.)
3. wait till your father gets back 3.5/5 (a little disappointing but the chorus is great.)
overall: 8.5/10 strongly recommended
i have no clue where to get this or how much it's worth. my good friend popsike.com didn't even have one copy of this. i just noticed that this is my 100th actual album review.

The Radiators From Space-Enemies 7"

more KBD punk for you. great release from the late 70's Irish band. this was put out in 77' on Chiswick. go to PUNK 77 for more about them. nice tempo, great vocals. nothing else to say. i can't find anywhere else to get this download, enjoy!
1. enemies 5/5 (great.)
2. psychotic reaction 4/5 (kind of sounds like the dicks. slow then fast.)
overall: 9.5/10 strongly recommended
i recently saw this on ebay, but like i always do, i forget to bid. it only went for $10, maybe that's cheap, maybe that's what it's worth, well i think it is, i don't know.

Blanks-EP 7"

(((re-post from Feb. 4/10@4:46pm)))
ok, last KBD record for a while, i promise. great 7" from this Peterborough band, not the ontario peterbourough, the UK one. on the back they use fake names they made up, for fun? great lo-fi production from 1979 on Void records. the record starts out with a chilling message from the northern ripper himself. before he speaks a women asks you "if you recognize this voice, call the police." then the ripper talks and you can heard faint music in the background, then i gets LOUD! it's really quite scary when you listen to it at night. anyway, good mix of fast and mid-tempo punk. great vocals. i think it's the only release by the band. it's probably on one of the KBDcomps, if not, it should be.
1. the northern ripper 5/5 (great punk song.)
2. understand 5/5 (fast and great vocals.)
3. break down 5/5 (classic.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
yep this hard to find. on popsike they are all sold from england and start at $50 grubles. somebody reissue this, please! or at least a bootleg. there's one on ebay right now, 1 bid and already at $50.

Maids-Back To Bataan 7"

well i'm back with a great KBD 7" that was unknown to me, until i got the KBD comps from Mat (thanks). two songs on this, one on KBD comp #7 and the other on KBD comp #17. this is the only release by the band in 79' on Anemic records. small pressing with only a fraction that came with a insert. go to KBD for the tracks or get the comps.
1. back to bataan 5/5 (great fast paced song. go to GBM for the lyrics.)
2. i do i do 4/5 (good, not as good as the first side but still good. there's weird "born to be wild" lyrics in there.)
overall: 9.5/10 strongly recommended.
very rare, get a download.

The Queers-EP 7"

if those two posts were too brutal for you, here's a nice little soft record. the lightest symbol hits i've ever heard, but it's great. nice vocals and guitar. there are some great stories about this 7" on BREAKMYFACE. well this was released in 82' on the bands own label Dohney records. they couldn't afford picture sleeves so they got blank ones. all the sleeves were hand-written. only 200 pressed and mainly given to friends and relatives. 5 great songs jammed onto one side and then one crap song on the flip-side, Love Me. at the end of the recording session they decided they would record one more song and that's the one. the lyrics and everything were all improvised which is cool, but i don't really like what he's talking about. anyway, the band released another great 7". some of the tracks appear on the KBD comp #3, they're great too. there is a double 7" release that was both the 7"s, i'll be looking for one of those. after their second 7" the band dissolved and the only original member left was the singer. after that the records weren't the same. i've heard some of the tracks, they're crap. so stick to the original Queers lineup. recently a band called The Drunken Cholos formed. the band included the three original members of Queers. the cd they released sounds exactly like vintage Queers. the cd is gold all the way through. anyway.
1. we'd have a riot doing heroin 5/5 (great opener, vocals and bass and drums and guitar and everything.)
2. terminal state 5/5 (great.)
3. fag town 5/5 (nice!)
4. i want it now 5/5 (nice group vocals.)
5. trash this place 2.5/5 (good but the guitar sounds really out of tune or something. also i don't like the end, too long.)
6. love me 0/5 (talking plus music. music-good. talking-bad.)
overall: 8/10 strongly recommended
