YDI-A Place In The Sun 7"

well the past couple of days i've felt like garbage. what better to do then post. so here is the bootleg of the YDI 7". remember them from American Hardcore. that short clip of the singer whipping his elbows up and down. this is the Reagan Era boot. Reagan Era has the worst quality bootlegs. they don't even try to make them look good. the photos are pixelated and stretched. the insert is cut off so that they could print it on normal size paper. at least it's better then paying $300. so i can't complain, i guess. anyway, back to the record itself. originally released on Blood Bubble records in 1983. i like the fast straight forward tracks but not so much the slower ones. his voice gets a little to harsh on the slow tracks. short songs. nothing left to say. get it.
1. not shit 5/5 (nice.)
2. 1983 5/5 (favourite track.)
3. friends 4/5 (good.)
4. mad at the world 3/5 (ok.)
5. out for blood 3.5/5 (huh.)
6. categorized 5/5 (back to great.)
7. another day 5/5 (great bass.)
9. why die? 2.5/5 (weak closer.)
overall: 7/10 recommended
get the boot. although it looks crap, it's better than spending that much dough.

SS Decontrol-The Kids Will Have Their Say 12"

(((re-post from Jan. 6/10@7:23pm)))
(((here's my first request post. well re-post. here's to you elliott. i don't know why you like the other albums but you do. man i hate his voice, but it's good on some songs. pretty great album i guess. jock itch is great. well, what are you waiting for, get it.)))

alright here's the infamous ss decontrol album. first off, i have ripped all the songs from my own bootleg copy. if the band members want me to take down the links i will, and that goes for any downloads i have, or will have. ok, i just had to say that because of the comments on GBM. time for the review. this was a split release with x-claim and dischord limited to only 1000 copies. there was a bootleg, i don't know what year, but it had ex-claim and discord instead of the correct spelling. only 600 copies of that are out there (that's the one i have). this is a great release and i don't know why a reissue has not be issued, and it probably won't. i don't really like any other albums by them because they're just mainly hard rock and his voice. save the link on the song titles for the download.
1. boiling point 5/5
2. fight them 3/5
4. not normal 3.5/5
6. jock itch 5/5
7. fun to you 3.5/5
8. v.a. 5/5
9. how much art 2.5/5
12. war threat 3.5/5
14. screw 5/5
16. police beat 3.5/5
17. united 5/5
18. the end 0/5 (bad.)
overall: 7/10 recommended

The Throwaways/Spastic Panthers Split 7"

first off i'd like to say i've got 285 comments. i was surprised. also looking back at some downland, and the download counts are pretty high (for what i think). thanks to all who comment. you know who you are. i also have 3 followers now. keep downloading and commenting! anyway that's done. so by looking at the two covers you may think why the hell did they do a split. well i have no idea. a powerpop (yes it is) band and a brutal hardcore band. well they did it. both bands from alberta, canada and released on Handsome Dan records on april 21th of this year. my favourite is the Throwaways side. two females and a male on drums. then you have Spastic Panthers who i'm not too into. i don't know what it is but i just can't get into them. maybe you'll like em, who knows? the Throwaways side is heavy stereo. i much prefer mono. i do. well now the music.
The Throwaways
1. mikey erg! 5/5 (great melody.)
2. pterodactyl clap 5/5 (nice.)
3. summer song 5/5 (might destroy your left ear.)
4. got a problem? 5/5 (great song.)

Spastic Panthers
1. (i'm gonna) punch you in the dink 1/5 (not a fan of the lyrics.)
2. volatile 1/5 (meh.)
3. outta control 1/5 (nah.)
4. political song for dan izzo to sing 2.5/5 (only good song on this side, for me.)
overall: 5/10 meh recommended
first side is great but the other side isn't. get this from Handsome Dan records, the link is above.

The Faith/Void Split 12"

time for two great DC bands, in one.

the faith and void team up on this 12". released in 82' on that great DC label Dischord records. produced by Ian of minor threat. first off is the faith side. they play simple but good hardcore, i like this side better than the void side. i reason i like it better is because on the void side their is a more metal influence, and all those weird noises and riffs. i like the void's demo better, it's just straight ahead punk without the weirdest of this 12". i'm gonna keep this short because i have a long track list ahead of me.
The Faith
1. it's time 4/5 (kind of a slow start to the record.)
2. face to face 5/5 (probably the best, fastest faith song.)
3. trapped 4/5 (nice guitar.)
4. in control 4/5 (good lyrics.)
5. another victim 5/5 (guitar.)
6. what's wrong with me? 4/5 (nice.)
7. what you think 3.5/5 (ok.)
8. confusion 3.5/5 (i like the vocals a lot, but not the guitar riffs when then play slow.)
9. you're x'd 3.5/5 (meh.)
10. nightmare 4/5 (nice breakdown.)
11. don't tell me 5/5 (nice vocals, nice speed.)
12. in the black 2.5/5 (good, but too long for a Faith song.)
Void
13. who are you? 5/5 (great song, best one, over 2 minutes but the vocals are amazing.)
14. time to die 4/5 (everything's good.)
15. condensed flesh 5/5 (great song. i like that the vocals come in a little late.)
16. ignorant people 3.5/5 (a little slow for the most part.)
17. change places 3.5/5 (good.)
18. ask them why 4/5 (nice drums.)
19. organized sports 2.5/5 (it's good but i don't like the really high voices in the chorus, is it supposed to be children or something?)
20. self-defense 3.5/5 (good stuff.)
21. war hero 4/5 (great song, but better version on the demo. the vocals are really hard to hear. i do like that the vocals come in way too early, funny.)
22. think 3.5/5 (lots of metal, but still good.)
23. explode 1/5 (just metal a track, bad.)
overall: 7.5/10 recommended
the faith side is worth it alone. it is constantly reissued by Dischord so it's easy to get. there you go.

Plague-Just Say No 7"

there's my scanned copy of the cover. i'm travelling to were i've never traveled on this site yet, the LATE 80's. i mostly listen to stuff from either the early 80's or 2005 and up to today. but rarely in between. the only bands from the late 80's that i listen to would be Gorilla Biscuits, Bold (that's right Dylan) and some Youth of Today (i know, i know.) anyway, here we go. this time the a-side is slower than the b-side. brutal vocals, Poison Idea comes to mind, whenever i say brutal vocals i think of Poison Idea. released in 87' on, i believe, Punish records (a Sweden label). originally released with a 10" sleeve with a grey cover. i own the 1990 PLAGUE LIMITED EDITION copy. it comes with a 7" sleeve and has a red cover (like the one above). the lyrics are written on the inside and sometimes are impossible to see. white writing on a guy's white shirt, yep. but you can make out most of the rest. white blank labels on my copy, i don't know about the original however.
1. losing my mind 3.5/5 (slower than i thought it would be right off the bat, but still a good track.)
2. unplanned by the system 3/5 (ok.)
3. rat in a maze 3.5/5 (faster.)
4. city life 3.5/5 (whow thrash and echoes. short.)
5. the pit 5/5 (time for my favourite track. straight hardcore punk.)
6. downtown 5/5 (more punk, short.)
7. johnny's brain N/A (it's not really a track, no music, just 10 seconds of johnny's brain saying "just say no" therefore no rating.)
overall: 7/10 recommended
the guy over at Punk Not Profit had the entire Plague CD anthology but some distro guy asked him to remove it. i guess he hasn't noticed it's at GBM too. there are no scans for this at GBM just mp3s. but i just bought it, it was only $3. download "the pit" from GBM and then buy it.

The Abused-Loud and Clear 7"

enough KBD records, time for some straight ahead hardcore. The Abused were from NY but don't sound like anything you'll hear on the New York Thrash tape. brutal hardcore, when they play fast they sound like Poison Idea a bit. there are some slow parts but they are mostly followed by fastness, if that's a word. nice sound production on this, not too grungy, not too clean. good brutal vocals without being annoying, e.i. SSD. 500 pressed in 83'. i've seen some sort of bootleg on ebay. it was an LP and it had this record, the Urban Waste 7", The Mob 7" and one other record on it (reminds me of the Dischord release "four old 7"s on a LP"). but i can't find any info on it.
1. loud and clear 5/5 (great energy right off the bat.)
2. war games 3.5/5 (good, just a touch too slow at some parts.)
3. just another fool 5/5 (short fast.)
4. no end in sight 5/5 (slow, then fast, great.)
5. nuclear threat 3.5/5 (slow for the majority of the time.)
6. watch out 4/5 (nice, upbeat.)
7. blow your brains out 5/5 (only 5 seconds, how can you go wrong.)
8. drug free youth 5/5 (my personal favourite. good lyrics and musically good. great stuff.)
overall: 8/10 strongly recommended
way back when it was released, this record didn't get much attention. now it has become one of the most wanted hardcore punk records of all time. the sad thing is the people that actually like this record for the music can't buy it, meanwhile the people who are only in it for the money can get it. at least we can get a download. many chooses this time, GBM, 7"punk, and many more. thank god for them.

Poison Idea-Pick Your King 7"

i can't believe i haven't reviewed this yet. man this brutal hardcore and definitely one of my favourite records of all time. for this being fantastic you would expect me to have all the other poison idea album, you would be incorrect. i have actually never heard anything else by the band, except for the darby crash rides again demo. peter over at KBD said this "everybody and his mother knows the Poison Idea." well i didn't, back then. i had heard about poison idea but i didn't know how they sounded. so on a trip out east, i got unlimited internet use so i decided to download as much as possible. but i couldn't use mediafire or rapidshare or any of that stuff. so the only place i knew where to get downloads was KBD (and punktapes.com). i downloaded everything from 1980-1984 (i deleted a lot of it.) anyway, i saw this and it had 13 songs on a 7" so it had to be good, right. on that trip i must have listened to it a million times on my psp (along with the Hates-Panacea album, especially punk 1301.) i'd just like to thanks KBD for all the great records he has over there. a lot of the stuff i went out and bought, but records like this, it's impossible to get without emptying your wallet. now for some pressing information. 1st press on clear vinyl, 1000 pressed on fatal erection records. 2nd press on black vinyl, 700 presssed on blue sleeve. 3rd press on black vinyl, 1000 pressed. the final press (4th) on the bands own label, American Leather, (i'm guessing from the germs song, even the first release on american leather records was called darby crash rides again and the cover of it is the cover of the (GI) album) 1000 pressed in 1990. i love the artwork. on the front side is jesus and the back side is elvis, so you can pick your king, haha. the album sounds like one big song, not saying that all the songs sound the same, but the all flow together, with feedback and stuff. now for the songs.
1. think twice 5/5 (starts with no time to waste.)
2. it's an action 5/5 (great guitar.)
3. this thing called progress 4/5 (nice.)
4. in my headache 4/5 (a little slower.)
5. underage 5/5 (best song i've ever heard, fast, great vocals and instruments.)
6. self abuse 5/5 (continues great.)
7. cult band 5/5 (screaming start.)
8. last one 4/5 (good, great chorus.)
9. pure hate 5/5 (slower but fantastic.)
10. castration 5/5 (fast.)
11. (i hate) reggae 5/5 (funny.)
12. give it up 5/5 (whow.)
13. think fast 4/5 (good ender.)
overall: 9.5/10 strongly recommended
yep look on popsike and see how much these things go for, $400-100. the american leather reissue from 1990 is a bit cheaper though, like $80-40. some guy just paid $123 for it, man he got ripped, it's a good price for the original ones but not the reissue. anyway it's all too much money for me, and maybe for you too, so get a great quality download from KBD thanks to peter. jesus christ that was a long post, the next one might be the same length (hint:DRI 7").

S.O.A.-No Policy 7"

yes, henry garfield (now rollins) first band. at first listen you will think this is garbage, just like me, but later on i gave it another listen. now i like it. this is very raw. the drummer bearly hits his symbols. the guitar is very tight. the bass it bomming. and the vocals are straignht from the throat. this is all they did, then henry moved to cal. with black flag.
it's all great
1. lost in space 5/5
2. draw blank 5/5
3. girl problems 5/5
4. blackout 5/5
5. gate crashers 5/5
6. warzone 5/5
7. riot 5/5
8. gang fight 5/5
9. public defender 1/5 (too slow.)
10. gonna have to fight 3/5 (not my favourite.)
overall: 9/10 strongly recommended
well that's the last of the old dischord 7"s. (now for something different.)
