Night Birds-EP 7"

(((re-post from April 29/2010@8:32pm)))
(((this is a re-post cause Night Birds are awesome and they deserved a better rip. also cause someone was looking for this 7" so i figured i give him the best rips i can, hope he comments. listening to these rips compared to my old ones, there a few more crackles this time. now read what i wrote a while ago.)))

RAMONES SUCK!! but anyway. i always start a post with "time for some," and i've got nothing better to say so, time for some new hardcore punk/surf. this was released in april of this year, so i just received it in the mail. the great thing about this record is the presentation. all 500 records were hand made, hand cut and hand stamped. that's why the title is a little faded. lyrics and stuff at bottom. i bought this for only $4.50 at Grave Mistake records. get the download then go over there and buy it. it's all gold, too me. definitely the best 7" of the year so far. notice the similar sound of The Gift Givers song and the circle jerk's song World Up My Ass. i love the second track Thrilling Murder. the lyrics are about how the human-race is useless and they should all be killed. great stuff.
1. prognosis: negative 5/5 (great.)
2. thrilling murder 5/5 (best song, fast and great lyrics.)
3. unanswerable 5/5 (nice.)
4. the gift givers 5/5 (vocals are great.)
5. harbor rats 5/5 (instrumental surf song, and great.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
this was released on Grave Mistake records and with the small press run it's going to go fast. so get yours today, and get tons of other stuff they have.

JFA-Blatant Localism 7"

(((re-post from Nov. 4/2009@9:24pm)))
(((this is one of my favourite records cause it was one of the first punk records i got on vinyl. now i find myself looking at it more than listening to it. not cause i don't like it anymore, but because i have tons of other records. although i always keep it at the front of my stash of records. i remember always playing tony hawks pro skater with my brother and we would try to guess what he was saying in the chorus. cause they cut it all out in the game, cause of censors. also they substituted the word "drugs" with "skate." which sounds pretty funny when you find out what the original sounds like. anyway the vinyl itself has seen it's play. the wear is really only noticeable on the last track though. it's a great looking record with just the right amount of wear. check out the scans. elliott called for a re-post, so here it is.)))

hey, i just bought this, 30 bones altogether. it was worth it. one of the greatest albums out there. they put out another two good albums, they got some cool surf songs. after that record they gave up. they went from skate-punk to slow-bad. but from 80-84 they were great.
1. out of school 5/5 (great opening song, fast great music.)
2. JFA 5/5 (best song on here.)
3. do the hannigan 5/5 (really short, fast and fantastic.)
4. count 5/5 (4 seconds long, yep.)
5. beach blanket bong-out 5/5 (tony hawk pro skater 4, yep.)
6. cokes and snickers 5/5 (good song, feels like a bonus track. i can't eat snickers. allergic.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
(one goes up on ebay every other week, $20-35 depends on condition.)

Boogie Nazis-Pearl Harbor Sessions Tape

as promised, here is the tape tracks that were missing from the discography i posted a couple days ago. well more problems with my tape deck. now it clicks like a mad man when i play something. i think i might just suck it up and buy something new instead of looking around for old used stuff. but i did finally get a rip without the clicks but i listened to the cd versions and came to the conclusion. the cd versions are just more clearer so i went with those. thanks to Ryan again for uploading them. but i did scan everything. anyway here you have it. a tape entitled Pearl Harbor Sessions. i think it was released in 2010 but i'm not sure cause there is no date. apparently i got the last tape they had, thank god. greatly packaged. the tape is spray-painted with one side being black and the other being the "rising sun." you know, that Japanese thing or whatever. on the paper you get an official pilots license. mine is #51. i signed my name on it but at the time of scanning this, which was a long time ago, i hadn't signed it yet. so check out the scans below. now get the finest surf music ever to grace tape reels.
1. wild summer fun 5/5 (big party song.)
2. droppin' throu' 5/5 (holy god this is great.)
3. batfish 5/5 (guitar=great.)
4. if tuscon had a beach 5/5 (one of the greatest guitar riffs of all time. all of the ones in this song.)
5. gleaming the tube 5/5 (back to fast.)
6. john denverb, colorado 5/5 (keyboard is fantastic. again, riffs amazing. 0:53s makes me cry, with joy of such a great riff.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
can't wait for more Boogie Nazis stuff. can you?

Boogie Nazis-Four Years and Still Swimming CD

here it is, the greatest collection of surf music you'll ever hear. well that's what i think anyway. this band from Arizona has been kicking around since 2007. Ryan from BN first came by my site way back when i posted that first BN post. that was when i first heard them, through The Imposters. now Ryan drops by now and again (which i think is pretty cool). anyway, he is sending me this CD but for now you can get the tracks from cllct.com (which Ryan uploaded them to). so these tracks aren't from my own rippings or anything. there are tons of great songs here. some different version of some songs too. if you're wondering why some of the tracks don't have links. that is because i have the tape that those songs are on, which i would like to post sometime. but you still can download from the link at the very bottom, so. alright here we go, so many tracks.

JFA-Untitled 12"

(((re-post from Feb. 13/2010@5:07pm)))
(((so here is a post for you Ryan. i can't believe it's already Christmas time again. this time last year me and elliott were duking back and forth with posts. now, not so much. oh well. anyway, the mighty J.F.A. this isn't as well regarded as their previous releases but it is a really great record. my copy is really worn. just look at the cover. in the scans you will see a picture of a gauge in the vinyl. it occurs at 1:16 of "tentpeg." it skips on all my turntables except the one i ripped it with. you will hear a loud pop but that's it. lots of crackles on this. it adds to the music quite nicely. now grab a listen and enjoy the holidays. it will sound like you're sitting in front of a crackling fire. and now for the original post.)))

today i got my first "follower". i don't know who you are but if you're reading this, leave a comment and then i'll know it wasn't just a mistake. anyway, yet another post of JFA, as you can tell, they're one of my favourite bands. alright i expected the worst when i downloaded this. i love their first two records. but then i downloaded their 88' release, Nowhere Blossoms, it's horrible. not one bit of punk or even surf. after a couple months i decided to download this album. i thought it was going to be crap too, but boy was i wrong. i was pleasantly surprised. this record sounds pretty good, ranging from surf to punk to thrash to the 80's pop sound. released in 84' on what else but Placebo records. don't expect it to be anything like their first two albums, but still worth listening to. nice cover too. tracks, look down.
1. deltitnu 5/5 (just in case you didn't know, this is "untitled" backwards. the music and title.)
2. tentpeg 3/5 (good. almost skips.)
3. ABA 5/5 (nice song, instrumental, nice fast surf style.)
4. it's not right 4/5 (hum.)
5. the day walt disney died 3/5 (slow then they speed it up in the chorus.)
6. standin' on the verge 5/5 (b-side kicks it.)
7. i love broads 5/5 (nice speed and vocals.)
8. ramp song 5/5 (great.)
9. pipetruck 5/5 (nice surf song. agent orange did a version of this too, the JFA one is faster therefore better. bass is great.)
10. zimbobway 5/5 (my personal favourite. nice surf/minutemen style song.)
11. untitled 5/5 (not really anything.)
overall: 8.5/10 strongly recommended
if your an early JFA lover (like me) just beware, this is not straight punk but still great. it's not a main collectors item it's not too pricey. by the way, elliott where are you?

JFA-Valley of the Yakes 12"

(((re-post from Jan. 6/10@9:58pm)))
(((well i decided to post up my copy of this so i can boast about my signatures. check em out scans. go to the bottom to get the zip file or you can download each song individually, if you're crazy enough.)))
okay, okay, yes the only reason i posted this is because i have a signed copy, well it's also a great record. all the band members signed it except for bam bam (drums). back in 1983 these guys sent this copy to a friend who had the chicken pox. on the cover brain (vocals) wrote "2 Mark, the chicken pox are bad. get well soon, Brain." and on the cover he put dots on his face so it looks like he had the chicken pox. on the back michael c. (bass) wrote his name on the bass. and on the inner sleeve don (guitar) wrote "I had the chicken pox recently, it sucks. Don P." i got this on ebay for only $12, the guy didn't know what he was selling. it's so sweet. anyway, on to the record. this record sounds quite different actually from their "blatant localism" 7" (which is amazing). brain's voice in deeper on this release. also it contains some sweet surf songs. i really like the insert too, it has the lyrics to 3 tracks and then it says "we can't tell what Brain says on any of the other songs." the a-side is good but the b-side is fantastic.
1. kick you 4/5 (great opener.)
2. great equalizer 3/5 (nice slower song.)
3. preppy 3/5 (good lyrics.)
4. little big man 3.5/5 (also good lyrics.)
5. johnny d 3/5 (good.)
6. walk don't run 5/5 (best track, and it's a surf song.)
7. i don't like you 3.5/5 (nice.)
8. baja 5/5 (another great surf song.)
9. skateboard 4/5 (skate.)
10. we know you suck 4/5 (i like the change on vocals.)
11. too late 5/5 (great song.)
12. sadistic release 3.5/5 (weird chord changes but good.)
13. axed at howard's 5/5 (love the chords.)
14. I-10 5/5 (great instrumental song.)
15. guess what? 5/5 (great bass at the beginning.)
overall: 8/10 strongly recommended
this was the first punk CD that i got online. i actually first heard these guys on tony hawks pro skater 4 (best game). anyway, the CD has their first two albums and some rare tracks. as soon as i got this i searched for the records. now i own the original copies of their first two records. look on ebay and buy this now. oh i also forgot, check out their here: SKATEBOARD WE DO! it's got lots good info on the band.

Insubordinates-1968/Rendezvous EP 7"

well the shipment of records i just got filled up the spot on my shelf where i put all my 7"s. so instead of cramming them all into the tiny spot (which i tried already) i decided to add a new shelf for them. all that's on it now are two crappy comps and a so-so record. soon it will be filled, i'm sure of it. well the False Prophets second 7" is already on it's way and i should get it sometime next week. i wish my post office worked on weekends. oh well, the guy down at the post office knows me know. i go there one a week. now when i leave he always says, "see you tomorrow zach!" we get a good laugh out of it, haha. haha, i think the last time i used haha in a post was way back on my first post/review ever, minor threat's first 7". anyway i think that's enough rambling for one post, more in the next post, haha (haha).
now here's what you came for, another record i was not aware of. i got this free from ryan of flat black records with my shipment. the shipment took a while to get but he threw in 5 free records and we were in communication the whole time, so i'm happy, very happy. i was very surprised when i spun this. not too fast but fast enough. released in 2008 on Feral Kid Records and CrotchRot Records. i believe these guys are from buffalo. i actually like the instrumental b-side better than the a-side. check it out.
1. 1968 4/5 (nice.)
2. rendezvous 5/5 (great no-vocal track.)
overall: 9/10 strongly recommended
see if it's your thing, then go buy it for pennies. i know you're sick of me saying this and frankly i am too, so from now on i'll just says scans (click on scans for scans, not those ones, the highlight scans, the word. well that made no sense).

Black America-We're Like Trash Talk But Good 7"

(((re-post from Dec.22/09@4:57pm)))
this was recorded in 2008 and released in 2009 (by f-labels and secret records). this is a pretty good 7", with different types of songs (punk, funk, etc.) i contacted Alex (vocals) over at their site and he said were out of their previous CDs, but you can buy this 7" through them. nothing else to say. oh the packaging must have been printed on low-resolution. i can barely read the lyrics sheet because the words are so fuzzy. but the label on the record looks sweet.
1. cock block 4/5 (great song.)
2. #1 bad dude 4/5 (this was the first song i'd heard of them and i've liked it ever since.)
3. sniffi vikki 3/5 (good vocals.)
4. american pride 4/5 (another great song.)
5. sub-life 4/5 (best song, good music.)
6. yuppie youth 3/5 (more slower, bluesy feel.)
7. girls are better than boys 4/5 (great additional vocals.)
8. pedo joe 3/5 (i love the junk stuff at the beginning, but the lyrics aren't my favourite.)
overall: 7/10 recommended
buy it for cheap here.

Bad Antics-EP 7"

(((re-post from Dec.22/09@10:25pm)))
here's a great demo EP from 2006. all fast and tight with great vocals. this is their only release with Jenn on the drums (she left and the 2nd guitarist moved to drums). originally released as a CD (two pressing, 200 total on Smokin Barrel Records). the band is located in California but this 7" was distributed by Hardware Records and Audiogorilla Records, both located in Germany in 2008. 394 on black vinyl and 100 on clear vinyl. the cover is a fold-out, complete with lyrics on the inside, plus some inserts. their band site is located here. enjoy my rip and remember, it's a demo!
1. guilty conscience 5/5 (great, fast with blistering vocals.)
2. kicked out 4/5 (nice drumming.)
3. skate or die 3/5 (good.)
4. in the deep end 2/5 (nah.)
5. narcolepsy 5/5 (fantastic song, fast, great vocals. best one.)
6. raisins 5/5
overall: 7.5/10 recommended
good stuff. their other releases aren't as great as this one, but still good. GET JENN BACK ON THE DRUMS! BUY NOW! thanks to their site for all the info.

Rabies-Disease Core 7"

time for some more new hardcore. the Rabies were located in L.A. from 2004-2007 (too bad elliott). go to their site for complete discography: I HAVE RABIES! this was originally released on Smokin' Barrel Records in 2006. it was the labels first release and soon sold out. then the great guys at Sorry State records re-issued it, twice. i have the second press on Sorry State, third overall. the thing i don't like is that the lyric sheet doesn't have all the lyrics. nice drawings on the whole package. very clear vocals, like Kevin Seconds, which is hard to find in todays punk music. these guys' must have loved rabies.
1. why you're crying 5/5 (huge bass, great vocals.)
2. you're gonna blow it 4/5 (nice vocalist.)
3. disease core 3.5/5 (nice, i love when he's singing the "highly unoriginal" part.)
4. the man with the flute (is drilling inside my head) 2.5/5 (a little long and slow.)
5. why 4/5 (nice tempo.)
6. gonna fuck you up 3/5 (good.)
overall: 8/10 recommended
get this and their other stuff. it's all cheap, go to ebay or the punk labels (you know Sorry State, Grave Mistake, etc.) skate punk!

The Imposters-Pool Maintenance 7"

one of the best hardcore albums of the 2000's. great cover, i like the SOA shirt. 1000 pressed of this beast, 30 with a full colour picture, not the one above. 20 test presses, and guess what, I GOT ONE! (well not yet it's coming in the mail. got it from FLAT BLACK RECORDS on ebay, great place for new and old punk, great service). this was released in 2008 on Secret Records which i believe was created by the singer Nickolai. they released a good LP too. their looking to release another 7", but since their label is no more, they're looking for some other label to release it. here's the band's site: SKATE. the a-side is golden on this 7". now time for the tracks.
1. pool maintenance 5/5 (great fast song.)
2. something to prove 5/5 (great song structure.)
3. water supply 4/5 (good.)
4. the wedge 5/5 (first song i heard of these guys and has remained my favourite. great surf song.)
5. no idea 4/5 (don't make assumptions, listen to the song.)
6. conformity 4/5 (nice.)
7. too much hate 4/5 (BASS is sweet.)
8. i want you 4/5 (ha, organ? it is sweet thou.)
overall: 7/10 recommended
buy it from their site listed above, it's cheap. look out for that new 7", hopefully coming soon, HOPEFULLY, i wish.

The Faction-Corpse In Disguise 7"

here's the other 7" by the band. however, their NO HIDDEN MESSAGES LP is their best release (it's got their best song "fast food diet" and the original "skate and destroy" on it). the effects make this release in which i mean thee way the symbols and vocals sound. the symbol hits are so light and the vocals have an echo on them.
1. corpse in disguise 2.5/5 (weakest track on here.)
2. friends and enemies 5/5 (great song.)
3. 100 years war 5/5 (great vocals.)
4. skate and destroy (live) 4/5 (why not?)
overall: 7/10 recommended.
like before, only reissued on CD.

The Faction-Yesterday Is Gone 7"

not really what i expected. this record is a bit plain but overall good. a later song they made "skate and destroy" sounds exactly "like room 101." their next two records are good too. a little bit metal-ish on the guitar (in their later years it became more metal-ish, and the songs became over 3:00 unlike these 1:30 songs).
1. room 101 3/5 (good.)
2. enteral plan 3/5 (good music.)
3. black balled 2.5/5 (decent.)
4. yesterday is gone 5/5 (best song. fast--slow--fast--slow.)
5. bullets are faster then words 4/5 (great song. sweet symbol hits.)
overall: 6/10 recommended
their is a CD out there with some of these songs on it, other than that, no reissues.
