Circle One-Patterns Of Force 12"

well after a long absence i'm back. and i'm coming back with one of my favourite vocalists. everybody already knows all about his stories, like his death, so i won't talk about it. i just really love the way he sings. especially on "Gospel". just a fantastic song. anyway this was recorded and released in 1983 on Upstart Records. this was re-issued two years ago by two labels, Mass Media and Puke n Vomit Records. a great mix of long and short songs on this one. now i downloaded a version of this album a long time ago. the recording was very simple with no effects on the vocals or instruments. now when i bought this re-issue i found myself listening to an album with tons of effects on it. like the massive echoes on his voice, which wasn't on the downloaded version. what does the original 1983 release sound like? effects or no effect? oh well, who cares.

a-side
1. social climbing leeches 5/5 (great opener.)
2. beware 5/5 (nice.)
3. gospel 5/5 (great, favourite song.)
4. survive 3.5/5 (ok.)
5. fading 5/5 (fast and short.)
6. destroy exxon 5/5 (love vocals.)

b-side
1. patterns of force 5/5 (great chorus.)
2. plastic life 5/5 (short.)
3. rapture 5/5 (oooohhhh.)
4. vietnam vets 2.5/5 (meh.)
5. pride 5/5 (love it.)
6. our sword 4/5 (jesus christ.)
7. unity 5/5 (great ender.)

overall: 8.5/10 strongly recommended
great lp from a later stage in the punk rush. thrash without getting too fast on the back and fourth of the snare and hi-hat.

JFA-Untitled 12"

(((re-post from Feb. 13/2010@5:07pm)))
(((so here is a post for you Ryan. i can't believe it's already Christmas time again. this time last year me and elliott were duking back and forth with posts. now, not so much. oh well. anyway, the mighty J.F.A. this isn't as well regarded as their previous releases but it is a really great record. my copy is really worn. just look at the cover. in the scans you will see a picture of a gauge in the vinyl. it occurs at 1:16 of "tentpeg." it skips on all my turntables except the one i ripped it with. you will hear a loud pop but that's it. lots of crackles on this. it adds to the music quite nicely. now grab a listen and enjoy the holidays. it will sound like you're sitting in front of a crackling fire. and now for the original post.)))

today i got my first "follower". i don't know who you are but if you're reading this, leave a comment and then i'll know it wasn't just a mistake. anyway, yet another post of JFA, as you can tell, they're one of my favourite bands. alright i expected the worst when i downloaded this. i love their first two records. but then i downloaded their 88' release, Nowhere Blossoms, it's horrible. not one bit of punk or even surf. after a couple months i decided to download this album. i thought it was going to be crap too, but boy was i wrong. i was pleasantly surprised. this record sounds pretty good, ranging from surf to punk to thrash to the 80's pop sound. released in 84' on what else but Placebo records. don't expect it to be anything like their first two albums, but still worth listening to. nice cover too. tracks, look down.
1. deltitnu 5/5 (just in case you didn't know, this is "untitled" backwards. the music and title.)
2. tentpeg 3/5 (good. almost skips.)
3. ABA 5/5 (nice song, instrumental, nice fast surf style.)
4. it's not right 4/5 (hum.)
5. the day walt disney died 3/5 (slow then they speed it up in the chorus.)
6. standin' on the verge 5/5 (b-side kicks it.)
7. i love broads 5/5 (nice speed and vocals.)
8. ramp song 5/5 (great.)
9. pipetruck 5/5 (nice surf song. agent orange did a version of this too, the JFA one is faster therefore better. bass is great.)
10. zimbobway 5/5 (my personal favourite. nice surf/minutemen style song.)
11. untitled 5/5 (not really anything.)
overall: 8.5/10 strongly recommended
if your an early JFA lover (like me) just beware, this is not straight punk but still great. it's not a main collectors item it's not too pricey. by the way, elliott where are you?

The Shitlickers-Cracked Cop Skulls EP 7"

is it The Shitlickers or The Shit Lickers? well...... i went with the first one. anyway this post goes along with the anti-cimex one i just did. as i said before, this was bootlegged onto a 7" with the a-side being this entire ep and the b-side having the entire anti-cimex anarkist attack 7". that's why you'll only see one side of the vinyl in the scans. more raging swedish punk for you. originally released on Malign Massacre in 1982. now i'm not sure on the pressing info but i'll give it a shot. if anybody can help me on facts, do so. it was originally released with the cover linked here. i don't like it very much. then The Export records repressed this and it came with the cover above. and the final press is the same cover as above only in red, not white. now i know that's probably wrong so help me out. seeing as i will never own the anti-cimex original 7", i bought this bootleg. cheap alternative. all the songs are under a minute, beautiful.
1. war system 5/5 (nice.)
4. armed revolution 5/5 (done.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
nice, fast listen. short fast rules!

United Mutation-Insanity/Kyo Ki 7"

now we'll go from really good to really bad. at first you might think, "cool a dc band. produced by don at inner ear! this is gonna be great! like minor threat!" then you put it on and realize it doesn't sound like minor threat at all. too bad. anyway this was released on the great bootleg german label Lost and Found records. i'm not sure what this is called but it says "insanity/kyo ki" on the record label. some of you out there will probably like this. that's why i'm posting it, for the public. i haven't seen it anywhere else so here you go. comes on a nice blue vinyl. unknown pressed. have at it! (it's all garbage for me, except for the last song which i like. actually good vocals on that track).
1. white boy 0/5
5. it's over 0/5
8. oh no 0/5
10. over the edge 4/5 (only good track. recorded live in'87.)
overall: 1/10 not recommended
not something i like to listen to but maybe it's for you.

Mob 47-EP 7"

(((re-post from April 18/10@10:21pm)))
(((now re-ripped in stereo so you can hear what's all going on.)))

finally i've had time to post something. i had this rip sitting around for a while so don't say it's crap, it's alright, the record is only $4 to buy so get this as a sample, that is if you think my rip sucks. i forgot about it until now, so here you go. when i bought the 7" i never knew what it sounded like. i had heard of them and the artwork looked great so i bought. i have the Havoc records re-press. the original cover has a hand drawn creature or something but i like the one above better. scans. anyway, this is another great swedish release. pretty much thrash i'd say with one amazing break-down song. apparently they are still playing and releasing records. here is their band site: KARNVAPEN ATTACK! with discography, photos and lots more. enjoy!
1. karnvapen attack 5/5 (great.)
2. rusting ar ett brott 4/5 (great guitar.)
3. res dig mot overheten 4/5 (nice, guitar is always great.)
4. vi rustar dom dor 4/5 (vocals great.)
5. det ar upp till oss 4/5 (only 15 seconds, what more do you want.)
6. dom ljuder 5/5 (great guitar opening. man i've said great enough times.)
7. ingen framtid 4/5 (short.)
8. animal liberation 5/5 (slow but the best song on here. great everything.)
9. polisstat 4/5 (nice ender.)
overall: 9/10 strongly recommended
great stuff, get the download, then buy it.

Bum Kon-Drunken Sex Sucks 12"

so here it is, one of the greatest recording sessions of all time. but before i go any further i would like to say happy birthday to the man who runs political trendy. he's going on 200 posts now so congrats on that. this post is for you elliott, hope you like it.

so it's great to see more and more comments rolling in. my little canadian site some how made it's way to finland. nice to hear from ryan again. i can't wait to get that package. i'm watching Seinfeld right now. it was cool to see that erich had it as his recommended media. 2nd best show of all time, hilarious. do you want to know what the best show of all time is? no? ok, i asked.

wow, that was way off topic. so here it is, the killer 12". it's all golden! fast thrashy hardcore with a great sound and vocals. way back in 1983 bum kon recorded 20 songs (5 other songs, but they're just different versions). but sadly only released 5 of them on a 7". and that didn't even include the best track on here, Nancy Reagan Fashion Show. i reviewed that 7" a while ago but i was to harsh so don't read it. also back in 1983 there was a mass murder named Woo Bum Kon, i think you can put two and two together. they should have released all 20 of these songs as a massive 12", back in the day. luckily in my generation Smooch Records and Maximum RocknRoll re-issued this beast. it's the only remastering job i like. this will be the only re-issue/compilation of tracks or whatever you want to call it, posted here at this blog. huge record so i added a zip file at the bottom. enjoy (and you better)!

wait, there is so many songs so i'll just say that all of them get a 5/5. also that Nancy Reagan Fashion Show, Giving In, The Draft (amazing the way the song before blends with this track), This Is Art, Reagan Sucks, Go Die and Gay Rodeo are the killers on here.
16. go die
bonus alternate takes
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
everyone needs a hard copy of this. go to the links above and get it. oh and again, happy birthday to elliott.
p.s. if the label has any problem with this post, let me know!

Human Mess-Anger Problems 7"

well i haven't posted some complete randomness in a while so those last two posts make up for it. well i bought more records, what's new right. ebay of course. lots of punks (when i say punks i mean one who listens to punk) hate ebay. a lot of people put up their punk records and are called, by others, to be "sell-outs." i don't see the problem here. a lot of people are looking for money. i remember seeing the fix 7" and the necros first 7" (both originals) up for sale at $8000 buy now. you might be thinking where the hell am i going with this. to be true, i have no clue, just rambling. if they want to sell them and someone wants to buy them, let them. i personally love ebay, i'm on there everyday. where else are you suppose to sell the records? people supplying punk for the world. so yes a lot are out for the money, but a lot just want to pass on these great records. if you think the auction is gonna go really high, ask for a buy now. this shows you what kind of person they are. a lot of people just say, "no. just bid." but then there's the nice ones. the ones who love a good haggle. for example, i just bought tsol ep 12", jfa untitled 12" and government warning no moderation 12" for $30. go here and buy what he has. great guy, and he also sold me the neos and graven image 7"s. ebay is a great place to find punks. also another guy gave me free records when i bought one. so you're still wondering where the hell i'm going with this. nowhere. well this is as good a place as any to end this nonsense.
so let's get to the actual music. just skip all that and start reading now. but you probably read all that to get to this. oh well.
probably the most screaming record i own. well not probably, it is. but it's good that way. great "underground" sound. great production. released in 2008 with a run of 500. apparently they sold really quickly. but i got it from my friend at flat black records this year. what label is this on you might ask, well i don't have the record beside me so i'll take a stab at it and say no way records. correct me if i'm wrong. they're from california. the songs are really short, just the way it should be. their other releases sound just as good.
1. anger problems 5/5 (best one.)
2. personal insanity 4/5 (scared yet.)
3. no respect 5/5 (great musically.)
4. i give up 4/5 (mayhem.)
5. sex addict 5/5 (great ender.)
overall: 9/10 strongly recommended
like it? why not get a hard copy?

Scared Straight-Born To Be Wild 7"

one last mid 80's stuff for a while. released on mystic records in 1985 on some really flimsy card stock. but glued together which i like. part of the nardcore series. they are featured on the nardcore compilation. but that comp is all about the ill repute tracks. back and fourth thrash. relatively short short songs with some equaling in at over 2 minutes. sound quality, compare it to nunfuckers. all these mid to late 80's releases kind of sound the same. oh well. anyway here's the songs. they all start with the same slow thing, but give it a try.
1. life 4/5 (nice.)
2. badge 5/5 (nice guitar riffs.)
3. children 5/5 (vocals.)
4. unity 5/5 (great.)
5. drug free 4/5 (cool.)
6. typical 5/5 (my favourite.)
7. another day 3/5 (meh.)
8. school II 4/5 (good lyrics.)
9. born to be wild 5/5 (i hate the original song but the way the singer sings on this track is awesome. the way he says CHILD is hilarious.)
overall: 8/10 strongly recommended
it's been re-issued and is up on ebay a lot. nice little record to add to your collection. download TYPICAL and see what you think.

Cheetah Crome Motherfuckers-EP 7"

(((re-post from Jan.1/10@2:33am)))
(((i remember back when i posted this. it was 2:30am on new years day after all the party guests had gone home and i was so tired but i couldn't sleep so i thought i'd post. i put up the tracks on this cause it's pretty hard to find. i ripped this a while ago, weeks. now read what i wrote a couple months ago.))) short post because it's 3:00am new year's day and i'm tired. back to the 80's, again. only release by the band that i like. rare, but reissued in 2000, but still rare. this stuff is intense. it's not really fast, but it's powerful. i think their more metal stuff can be found on GBM.
1. four hundred fascists 5/5 (fast, punch in the face.)
2. tellyson 4/5 (slower, but good.)
3. akotool 3.5/5 (good.)
4. untitled 4/5 (not labeled on record.)
overall: 8.5/10 strongly recommended

The Faith/Void Split 12"

time for two great DC bands, in one.

the faith and void team up on this 12". released in 82' on that great DC label Dischord records. produced by Ian of minor threat. first off is the faith side. they play simple but good hardcore, i like this side better than the void side. i reason i like it better is because on the void side their is a more metal influence, and all those weird noises and riffs. i like the void's demo better, it's just straight ahead punk without the weirdest of this 12". i'm gonna keep this short because i have a long track list ahead of me.
The Faith
1. it's time 4/5 (kind of a slow start to the record.)
2. face to face 5/5 (probably the best, fastest faith song.)
3. trapped 4/5 (nice guitar.)
4. in control 4/5 (good lyrics.)
5. another victim 5/5 (guitar.)
6. what's wrong with me? 4/5 (nice.)
7. what you think 3.5/5 (ok.)
8. confusion 3.5/5 (i like the vocals a lot, but not the guitar riffs when then play slow.)
9. you're x'd 3.5/5 (meh.)
10. nightmare 4/5 (nice breakdown.)
11. don't tell me 5/5 (nice vocals, nice speed.)
12. in the black 2.5/5 (good, but too long for a Faith song.)
Void
13. who are you? 5/5 (great song, best one, over 2 minutes but the vocals are amazing.)
14. time to die 4/5 (everything's good.)
15. condensed flesh 5/5 (great song. i like that the vocals come in a little late.)
16. ignorant people 3.5/5 (a little slow for the most part.)
17. change places 3.5/5 (good.)
18. ask them why 4/5 (nice drums.)
19. organized sports 2.5/5 (it's good but i don't like the really high voices in the chorus, is it supposed to be children or something?)
20. self-defense 3.5/5 (good stuff.)
21. war hero 4/5 (great song, but better version on the demo. the vocals are really hard to hear. i do like that the vocals come in way too early, funny.)
22. think 3.5/5 (lots of metal, but still good.)
23. explode 1/5 (just metal a track, bad.)
overall: 7.5/10 recommended
the faith side is worth it alone. it is constantly reissued by Dischord so it's easy to get. there you go.

D.R.I.-Dirty Rotten 7"

so here it is, one of the milestones in american hardcore punk history, but not for the better. released in 1983, it is usually considered the first record combining hardcore punk with thrash punk. ok what exactly is "thrash". we mostly know of thrash as being extremly fast music with the drummer going back and fourth on the hit-hat and snare. but in the old maximum rocknroll fanzines they say minor threat is a great thrash band. thrash just meant going fast, not crazy fast. i don't know when the meaning of the word changed, or maybe just mrr used it in that sense. and another thing, these guys didn't ruin the 80's hardcore scene, nobody did, it just ended. anyway back to the album. man, 22 songs crammed onto one little 7". originally released as a 7" with only 500 pressed. so it was soon reissued on a 12". down the road in 2001 someone in europe released a bootleg 7". i have the bootleg copy. you can easily tell the two apart. the labels on the records are different and the cover of the bootleg has a white border and the original doesn't. i think only 500 of the bootlegs were pressed too. there you go, now the hard part.
1. sad to be 1/5
2. war crimes 4/5
3. busted 0/5
4. draft me 5/5
5. f.r.d.c. 0/5
6. capitalist suck 1/5
7. misery loves company 0/5
8. no sense 0/5
9. blockhead 1/5
10. i don't need society 2/5
11. commuter man 5/5
12. plastique 5/5
13. why 5/5
14. balance of terror 1/5
15. my fate to hate 5/5
16. who am i? 3/5
17. money stinks 5/5
18. human waste 5/5
19. yes ma'am 3/5
20. dennis' problem 3/5
21. closet punk 3/5
22. reaganomics 1/5
overall: 4/10 not really recommended
b-side way better then a-side. not a very good record overall. go ahead and hear what they're all the talking about. it's at GBM. i just learned that beer city records is going to do a great reissue of the original 7", so don't waste all your money on the bootleg or the original, just wait for the reissue, unless your rich or can't wait a few months.

M.D.C.-Chicken Squawk 7"

yes, time for some more MDC. this is the last release that i like by the band. recorded in 84' and released on r radical records. there must have been a million copies pressed because it is always on ebay, everyday there's one. anyway, i have to say that i actually think the chicken squawk is one of the best mdc songs. it's an incredibly fast punk folk bluegrass song. i first heard that song on the show Jackass. when i first heard mdc back in the day i didn't like them. i thought they were too sloppy and fast, but now that's what i love about them.
1. chicken squawk 5/5 (great, fast song. i like the bluegrass banjo.)
2. kleptomaniac 2.5/5 (long chanting opening.)
3. death of a nun/pecking order 2.5/5 (too crazy for me, yes you read correctly.)
overall: 5.5/10 lightly recommended (for chicken squawk)
if you want some good fast mdc tracks check out their LP. you can actually get this 7" for cheap. i'm looking at one right now on ebay for only $9, that's what it's worth anyways, well i think.

Neos-Hassibah Gets The Martian Brain Squeeze 7"

finally some great CANADIAN hardcore. man this is the fastest 7" in the world where the drummer isn't just going back and fourth on the hi-hat and snare. 14 short songs are all packed onto this 7". this album along with their first 7" (only 500 presses of each 7") were distributed by their own label "Alandhiscar". the 7"s can with insert sheets that had lyrics, info and even notes on how to play the songs. 1 year later (1983) "Rat Cage Records" re-released this with different songs titles, the music was the same thou. the Neos called it a quits in 1983 (only a 3-year career) with only releasing two 7"s, but they will not be forgotten. this is even more intense then DRI.
1. destruct 5/5 (great opener.)
2. they'll destroy themselves 4/5 (vocals are a little too harsh.)
3. (almost) typical, obligatory anti-government song 5/5 (great slower tempo.)
4. ambitious 5/5 (fantastic vocals)
5. where did you go wrong??? 4/5 (nice guitar.)
6. just like all the rest 4/5 (decent.)
7. look around in despair 4/5 (fast.)
8. conscripts 5/5 (great drum opening, slow then fast.)
9. jungle beat-so it seems 4/5 (can't hear the talking, thou.)
10. other world 4/5 (nice.)
11. opposition to all violence, even if committed in self defense 4/5 (yah.)
12. die for the cause (bobby sands) 4/5 (good.)
13. ripped off again 5/5 (angry yet? great lyrics.)
14. sexual revolution 5/5 (great track, great vocal opening.)
overall: 9.5/10 strongly recommended
the original is very rare. the rat cage repress is easier to get, but still like $50. boy that seemed like a long post, now if you'll excuse me, i have to get to bed, even thou it's only 1:41 pm.

Bum Kon-Drunken Sex Sucks 7"

this is the biggest picture that i could find of this great (thrash?) record. there was a great little colorado hardcore scene along with "frantix" and "white trash." they didn't release much after this, but all their recordings can be found on the recently pressed "drunken sex sucks" 12". alright.
1. bum kon 5/5 (too short to be bad.)
2. locked away 4/5 (nice slower thrashing.)
3. drunken sex sucks 4/5 (great.)
4. the draft 5/5 (#3 blends into this masterpiece.)
5. slow death 1/5
(exactly.)
overall: 7/10 recommended (but impossible to get.)
so get the 12" only bad song on their is "slow death".
