The Freeze-Police 7"

the Freeze have been a topic of discussion around these parts for a week or so now. that is the Freeze in the 90's. everybody knows the Freeze right? well they are one of my favourite bands and just posted a fantastic live LP not to long ago. a little (of my) history on this. i saw this at a record store and it was only $5. for whatever reason, i did not purchase it. so when i got home, just for fun, i went online to see what it sounded like. at the time, Dave G. posted it over at his blog. i downloaded it and was surprised how great it was. now of course i'm near no record stores. then i figured out that these two songs were on an LP called "misery loves company." so i searched for that LP online for a while. finally someone posted it and i downloaded it. yes some songs on it are great, but mostly i was disappointed. that ended my downloading of later Freeze stuff. recently though i listened to some newer Freeze stuff, in my opinion, it's not good. sad cause the first 7 years of the Freeze we great times. their records from then are so great. anyway you might be wondering how i finally got this. well sometime later i got to another record store and found it for cheap, this time buying it. i had to put down a Brutal Knights 7" in it's place though. well it was worth it anyway. this was released in 1991 on Taang records. that's all.

1. bloodlights 4/5 (a little weird sound mishaps on this but it's not bad.)

2. talking bombs 4/5 (my favourite of the two.)

overall: 8/10 recommended

not really essential but that's why it's cheap.

The Maggotz-Tales From The City Of Vomit 7"

man i had busy weekend. i'm still reading Please Kill Me (strongly recommended) every night so i was basically didn't get any sleep. speaking of books, i just bought that complete touch and go zine book thing and the new book Why Be Something That You're Not. it's about the punk scene from 1979-1985. Revelation records released it and are in the works for another punk book but it's going into the 90's so i'm not getting it. speaking of the 90's, here's The Maggotz.

i was reading a post on Last Days and it inspired me to post this (the post was a 90's punk record). this was released on Nose Pick records in 1993 (the year i was born. now you all know my age). limited to 1000 and i have #785. this is how i got it. i was looking through my itunes and came across these two tracks (track one and two of this release) by the maggots. they were great. i didn't know where the tracks came from. so i searched for the maggots but couldn't find anything (later i realized it had a "z" at the end and not a "s"). then it hit me, mat dafuc. so i contacted him a found out that he ripped the tracks from his vinyl. he sent me some pics (we have the same couch) and i said now i just need a hard copy. couldn't find it anywhere. so i asked him if he knew where to get it and he found a place. he also found me that copy of The Spasms 7". thank you mat. so i went to the site bought it along with two other 7"s and about 10 zines. anyway, this record has the two best songs to come out of the 90's then the rest is just ok. crank the first two songs, short as hell too! enough of my yammering.

1. i 8 my brain 5/5 (amazing.)

2. orange slices 5/5 (even more amazing.)

3. blitzkrieg waltz 2/5 (ok.)

4. dry heave 3/5 (a little slower.)

5. full of hat 3/5 (too slow at points. and messed up ending. it clicks and stuff. it's not my copy, it's how it was done.)

overall: 6/10 recommended

get it from Stanton Park records along with tons of other stuff. in the scans i didn't connect the inside scan because it's easier to read the lyrics this way.

The Spasms-American Zero 7"

well i'm back, Mr. Metalhater here. and this post will just further the name. time for some things that i hate (for no apparent reason), and witnessed today in fact. get ready for some randomness. i really hate when people walk slowly. "SPEED UP" that's what i say in my mind but never out loud. people walking towards me must be thinking, "what the hell is he doing." you see me there just trying to cut around the wall to pass them but then the stick out there arm while explaining there (assumingly unimportant) stories. then there is another thing that happens to me while walking down those school halls. you know when you're walking and somebody's coming toward you. they never seem to get out of the way. i always have to make the first move to the side. it's not like they don't see you or anything. one day i decided to not move and just just walking straight. and of course he didn't move. our shoulders locked and the guy looked at me like he was gonna fight me. anyway, i don't even know how i got onto that topic. today we had a fire drill and outside i tripped over this pipe that was sticking out of the ground. i looked to see if anyone saw it. obviously since the entire school was outside, a group of kids saw it and were laughing. i don't blame them, i would have probably laughed too but i was so tired. i looked at them and they stopped. and that's my story, hahaha.

The Spasms is the band in this post. i know nothing of the band and can't find any information on them. all i know is they were from chicago and this was their only release. it was sent out in 1998. yeah a weird year to be on this blog. mat dafuc sent me mp3s of this and i needed to buy it. i couldn't find it anyway though. so i emailed him to see if he knew where to get it. too my delight he found it in three online stores and i bought the cheapest one. i like the way the sleeve is made, chronic disorder style. the front and back are separate. the two sheets have both front and back on both of them and the front is spray-painted out and same on one of the back. that was a really really bad explanation but it doesn't matter. the sound is more on the pop side but very garage punk and catchy.

2. don't gamble with love 4/5 (i love the drum sound on this record.)

3. only 16 5/5 (i am.)

overall: 9/10 strongly recommended

get it! might as well, right?

my brother (he might read this) says to me, "how can such a young man be filled with such rage." and to him i say. "probably cause this whole universe is against me!" (if you watch seinfeld you would get the reference).
