Sham 69-Borstal Breakout 7"

ok, sham 69. i know nothing about this band. only that they got their name from half covered graffiti. i've never heard anything else by the band. and i got no information on this record. is this going to be a good post, probably not. anyway, this is one of the records on the cd i got from Mat DaFuc. i've seen at least 2 other covers for this record, probably for different presses. the one above is my favourite. i have no clue how many were pressed, more than 1000. i've seen many on ebay without a picture sleeve. as soon as i played borstal breakout i immediately remembered the song because it was covered by some band. i still don't know what band covered it but i think it was on one of the tony hawk pro skaters. that's it.
1. borstal breakout 4/5 (kind of slow but good.)
2. hey little rich boy 5/5 (great kbd song.)
overall: 9/10 strongly recommended
it's on ebay a lot but with no picture sleeve. if you find it, BUY IT!

The Runs-Piss and Shit 7"

the name and title way offend you (not me), but the music won't. they are located in NB, Canada. there are only two people in the band, well really one. mat dafuc who plays all the instruments, sings and uses a drum machine. mike is for "show." just listen to the lyrics to beatcraft rulez. on their myspace page it said they were giving away free stickers, so i asked if he had any of their 7"s left, there were, so he shipped them out. then when i got it in the mail i saw there was a CD included called Mini Punk Archive. so i popped it into my computer and found 5 gbs of punk. it was sweet. oh and elliott that's where i got the old skrewdriver stuff. 500 pressed on black vinyl. i'd just like to thank mat for the great stuff, and for autographing the insert, that was sweet.
1. constipated 3/5 (good.)
2. something to say 3/5 (nice.)
3. my job sucks 3/5 (yep.)
4. punk enough for you 4/5 (good lyrics.)
5. beatcraft rulez 5/5 (fast and my favourite track.)
6. end of days 3/5 (b-side rips.)
overall: 6/10 recommended
go here: I DON'T NEED A DRUMMER and ask for a copy, i'm sure he'll even send you some mp3s of this, but don't hold me to that.

D.R.I.-Dirty Rotten 7"

so here it is, one of the milestones in american hardcore punk history, but not for the better. released in 1983, it is usually considered the first record combining hardcore punk with thrash punk. ok what exactly is "thrash". we mostly know of thrash as being extremly fast music with the drummer going back and fourth on the hit-hat and snare. but in the old maximum rocknroll fanzines they say minor threat is a great thrash band. thrash just meant going fast, not crazy fast. i don't know when the meaning of the word changed, or maybe just mrr used it in that sense. and another thing, these guys didn't ruin the 80's hardcore scene, nobody did, it just ended. anyway back to the album. man, 22 songs crammed onto one little 7". originally released as a 7" with only 500 pressed. so it was soon reissued on a 12". down the road in 2001 someone in europe released a bootleg 7". i have the bootleg copy. you can easily tell the two apart. the labels on the records are different and the cover of the bootleg has a white border and the original doesn't. i think only 500 of the bootlegs were pressed too. there you go, now the hard part.
1. sad to be 1/5
2. war crimes 4/5
3. busted 0/5
4. draft me 5/5
5. f.r.d.c. 0/5
6. capitalist suck 1/5
7. misery loves company 0/5
8. no sense 0/5
9. blockhead 1/5
10. i don't need society 2/5
11. commuter man 5/5
12. plastique 5/5
13. why 5/5
14. balance of terror 1/5
15. my fate to hate 5/5
16. who am i? 3/5
17. money stinks 5/5
18. human waste 5/5
19. yes ma'am 3/5
20. dennis' problem 3/5
21. closet punk 3/5
22. reaganomics 1/5
overall: 4/10 not really recommended
b-side way better then a-side. not a very good record overall. go ahead and hear what they're all the talking about. it's at GBM. i just learned that beer city records is going to do a great reissue of the original 7", so don't waste all your money on the bootleg or the original, just wait for the reissue, unless your rich or can't wait a few months.

Another Useless Update

well this is my 95th post and coming close to the big 100. for the 100th post i will reviewing the infamous This Is Boston, Not L.A. compilation, that's right all 30 tracks. but for now i'll be doing the DRI 7" next, that's right all 22 tracks. what am i getting my self into. lastly, for no reason i added a Mob 47 picture at the top of this post.

Poison Idea-Pick Your King 7"

i can't believe i haven't reviewed this yet. man this brutal hardcore and definitely one of my favourite records of all time. for this being fantastic you would expect me to have all the other poison idea album, you would be incorrect. i have actually never heard anything else by the band, except for the darby crash rides again demo. peter over at KBD said this "everybody and his mother knows the Poison Idea." well i didn't, back then. i had heard about poison idea but i didn't know how they sounded. so on a trip out east, i got unlimited internet use so i decided to download as much as possible. but i couldn't use mediafire or rapidshare or any of that stuff. so the only place i knew where to get downloads was KBD (and punktapes.com). i downloaded everything from 1980-1984 (i deleted a lot of it.) anyway, i saw this and it had 13 songs on a 7" so it had to be good, right. on that trip i must have listened to it a million times on my psp (along with the Hates-Panacea album, especially punk 1301.) i'd just like to thanks KBD for all the great records he has over there. a lot of the stuff i went out and bought, but records like this, it's impossible to get without emptying your wallet. now for some pressing information. 1st press on clear vinyl, 1000 pressed on fatal erection records. 2nd press on black vinyl, 700 presssed on blue sleeve. 3rd press on black vinyl, 1000 pressed. the final press (4th) on the bands own label, American Leather, (i'm guessing from the germs song, even the first release on american leather records was called darby crash rides again and the cover of it is the cover of the (GI) album) 1000 pressed in 1990. i love the artwork. on the front side is jesus and the back side is elvis, so you can pick your king, haha. the album sounds like one big song, not saying that all the songs sound the same, but the all flow together, with feedback and stuff. now for the songs.
1. think twice 5/5 (starts with no time to waste.)
2. it's an action 5/5 (great guitar.)
3. this thing called progress 4/5 (nice.)
4. in my headache 4/5 (a little slower.)
5. underage 5/5 (best song i've ever heard, fast, great vocals and instruments.)
6. self abuse 5/5 (continues great.)
7. cult band 5/5 (screaming start.)
8. last one 4/5 (good, great chorus.)
9. pure hate 5/5 (slower but fantastic.)
10. castration 5/5 (fast.)
11. (i hate) reggae 5/5 (funny.)
12. give it up 5/5 (whow.)
13. think fast 4/5 (good ender.)
overall: 9.5/10 strongly recommended
yep look on popsike and see how much these things go for, $400-100. the american leather reissue from 1990 is a bit cheaper though, like $80-40. some guy just paid $123 for it, man he got ripped, it's a good price for the original ones but not the reissue. anyway it's all too much money for me, and maybe for you too, so get a great quality download from KBD thanks to peter. jesus christ that was a long post, the next one might be the same length (hint:DRI 7").

Drunken Cholos -vs- Rich White Males 7"

finally i got some time for a review. this is my first split 7" review and probably the last. i actually received this in the mail by the singer of Rich White Males, Russell. he's a nice guy, i got some free stickers too. two good band share the record here. i first heard the Rich White Males on KBD records. Peter has their first 7". i wanted that one too but Russell only had the second press left. anyway they supply two good tracks. then on the flip side is the Drunken Cholos. i first heard them on their CD which is a fantastic album, i'll review that sometime this week. this was released by Attic Tan records in 2009.
Rich White Males
1. i hate teenagers 3.5/5 (good.)
2. i wrecked your party 3/5 (nice.)
Drunken Cholos
1. half my problem 3.5/5 (good.)
2. if i ever pork you 5/5 (best track on here, great.)
overall: 6.5/10 recommended
well worth my $6. if you like their previous albums you'll love this too. get it here: RICH CHOLOS, come on it's 6 bucks.

7 Seconds-Skins, Brains & Guts 7"

finally back from a 5 day hiatus. time for a great band with a great vocalist. what better to post then a record that has not been off rotation for a week over here. not as good as the committed for life 7" but still good. released on alternative tentacles and reissued in 90' by pazzafist records. most of this release is fast but there are some slow parts. they still have their old aggression on this EP. the crew 12" is way more softer, and a lot of the swear words are changed to not swear words. buy the old school 12" and you'll see what i mean.
1. skins, brains & guts 4/5 (nice.)
2. no authority 4/5 (good.)
3. redneck society 4/5 (good too.)
4. baby games 5/5 (great song.)
5. racism sucks 2/5 (don't get me wrong, racism does suck, but this song is a little too slow and what's with all the guitar soloing.)
6. this is my life 5/5 (great chords and vocals.)
7. anti-clan 5/5 (fast.)
8. i hate sports 4/5 (i like sports and this song.)
9. we're gonna fight 4/5 (another slow song, but the chorus is great.)
overall: 8.5/10 strongly recommended
i've never even seen the original on ebay, so get the reissue i guess.

I'm Still Alive

man i've been really busy lately and i haven't posted anything. so i just wanted to say something but i can't think of anything, so that's it i guess. oh, i just bought the original red cover 7 Seconds-Committed For Life 7", i can't wait to get it in the mail.

M.D.C.-Chicken Squawk 7"

yes, time for some more MDC. this is the last release that i like by the band. recorded in 84' and released on r radical records. there must have been a million copies pressed because it is always on ebay, everyday there's one. anyway, i have to say that i actually think the chicken squawk is one of the best mdc songs. it's an incredibly fast punk folk bluegrass song. i first heard that song on the show Jackass. when i first heard mdc back in the day i didn't like them. i thought they were too sloppy and fast, but now that's what i love about them.
1. chicken squawk 5/5 (great, fast song. i like the bluegrass banjo.)
2. kleptomaniac 2.5/5 (long chanting opening.)
3. death of a nun/pecking order 2.5/5 (too crazy for me, yes you read correctly.)
overall: 5.5/10 lightly recommended (for chicken squawk)
if you want some good fast mdc tracks check out their LP. you can actually get this 7" for cheap. i'm looking at one right now on ebay for only $9, that's what it's worth anyways, well i think.

Update

just a quick little update. i have uploaded the tracks from the SS Decontrol demo and i have added a downloads label. so just click on "downloads" underneath a download post and you can see all the available downloads on this site. also the School Jerks second EP is out now. go to there myspace page and buy it from them because the 7" is not in stores yet. by the way it's pretty good. also i have remastered some old posts, so if you see three brackets around some text, that means it's new to the post. i guess that's all, for now. see ya.

Rebel Truth-EP 7"

(((downloads up!))) this one's for you elliott, hope you like it, i do. so as you can read in the other post i think there was a one time pressing of 1000. then reissued in 1995. i love the sound and the singers voice on this release. like the other recent posts, i found these guys on the charred remains tape. i don't know where i got the download from, it wasn't 7"punk, i don't think, maybe, whatever. enjoy!
1. the request 5/5 (great guitar.)
2. try 5/5 (short and great.)
3. in the red 5/5 (great.)
4. trickle down 4/5 (nice.)
5. child hosts the parasite 4/5 (fast.)
6. moneyman 4/5 (reminds me of the necros.)
7. where the heart is 4/5 (nice background vocals, by the same person, well it sounds like it.)
8. the good life 3.5/5 (ok.)
9. unscene effort 4.5/5 (slower but great, sweet guitar riffs.)
overall: 9/10 strongly recommended
buy the reissue on ebay, now!

Prologue!

download of the rebel truth 7" coming soon,
but first just a paragraph that i found on 7"punk about the rebel truth 7" from Erik (bass/vocals). enjoy, i did!

"Heres what Erik had to say to us about the EP and the coloured vs the non coloured versions…
If you bought it directly from us, then it would probably be one of the first ones. I remember coloring in the first 500 or 1,000 stickers by hand because we couldn’t afford two color printing. That got really boring, and we gave up at some point. I don’t particularly remember about the covers being colored in however, though that probably would have been our intention if we could have afforded it. Though, now I’m glad it wasn’t, because we get a disturbing number of add requests from the far right wing, which is why I removed the red, white and black logo from our main photo. I think the stickers were only in the first pressing of 1,000 and cost about $40 to make, which was a lot for us at the time, planning a tour and all, so we didn’t have any more printed. Recording was done at Trullion Studios in Sacramento on 8 track Teac reel-to-reel decks with Shure 57s and 58s. Gear was simple. Stuart had a brand new Ludwig 4 piece drumset, Kevin had a custom Les Paul thing and the new Kramer Eddie Van Halen guitar with the just-out locking tremolo unit into a Fender Princeton Reverb II, and I played an Ibanez P-bass direct into the board, and then overdubbed all the bass parts with one of those 300 watt Acoustic bass heads plugged into an early ’70s SVT cabinet that was lent to me by Mike Palmer from Mumbo Gumbo. We really didn’t know what we were doing, but we just kind of did what felt and sounded right. It’s pretty hard to correctly recall how inexperienced and completely full of crap we were at the time, but I actually like the EP a lot more now because I was going to high school more than full time - music theory being after school, then practicing 5 afternoons a week with RT, washing dishes five nights a week at the Old Spaghetti Factory, recording on weekends and playing gigs - oh and a girlfriend too. At this point all the bad feelings have faded and we get along much better than the first couple of years after calling it quits."
THANKS 7INCHPUNK!

Die Kreuzen-Cows and Beer 7"

ok, i do like the music on this 7" but the singers voice is a little to high pitched from the throat for me. i loved them on the charred remains tape, his voice was better. the first to tracks on this 7" are on that comp and the comp versions are better, well i think. everyone seems to love this, i don't know why. their name means "the cross" in German, if anyone cares. this was released in 82' and since then has been bootlegged and reissued. the recent reissues are all over ebay.
1. hate me 3/5 (whow.)
2. pain 4/5 (nice.)
3. enemies 3/5 (nice tempo.)
4. in school 2/5 (alright.)
5. think for me 2/5 (meh.)
6. don't say please 4/5 (decent ender.)
overall: 5/10 meh
if you like more high throaty voices, pick this up, but if you don't, don't pick it up.

Cause For Alarm-EP 7"

i can't think of anything to review right now so i picked this randomly. it's good NY hardcore. the a-side is hardcore punk and the b-side is more thrashy, you know back and fourth drumming on the hi-hat and snare. this was self released in 83'. this has been bootlegged on a yellow sleeve. i love the artwork on the labels of the record. check this out at kbd (thanks peter).
1. parasite 5/5 (fast.)
2. second chance 3/5 (ok.)
3. time to try 4/5 (nice.)
4. united races 5/5 (best track, good lyrics.)
5. in search of 3.5/5 (stop and go.)
6. poison in the machine 3/5 (good.)
7. true colours 5/5 (best track on b-side.)
8. stand as one 3/5 (yes.)
overall: 7.5/10 recommended
look on ebay for it, $40 and up usually.

Violent Apathy-Here Today.... 7"

i must say i expected more from this release. after listening to them on those great midwest comps, including charred remains tape, master tapes volume 2 and the process of elimination comp. i like the songs on the charred remains tape the best. that comp is great and available on kdbrecords and punktapes.com. this is their slowest stuff. this 7" was released on gravevoice and is still available on their site, if you want to buy it, i don't.
1. bought and sold 1/5 (bad and long.)
2. scathed 4/5 (best song.)
3. here today 2/5 (ok.)
4. black sorrow 0/5 (bad.)
5. possession 2/5 (meh.)
6. la bamba 4/5 (the best track and it's a cover of an old stupid song. it's actually the fastest track on here.)
overall: 2/10 not recommended
this is available on 7inchpunk, maybe give it a listen but you won't want to keep it. wow 4 links on this post, new record.

Marching Plague-Rock N' Roll Asshole 7"

i never knew about this band or 7" until i saw it on ebay. when i found the faction-yesterday is gone 7" on ebay i looked to see the seller's other items and he had this up. it looked cool so i looked for a download before a would bit on it. after a while i finally found one. it was pretty good so i decided to bid on it. but, i thought it said 4 days left but it was hours, so i never got to bid. it only went for 12 bucks. oh well. i reviewed the bad antics 7" a while back, and that record sounds a lot like this. the singers sound exactly like each other. anyway, this is pretty good but super rare. i believe these guys are from Houston. i have decided to add download links simply because i have never seen this anywhere else. as you can read i don't have this so it's not my own rip, but i did clean up the recording a bit (i found it on some music storage site).
1. rock n roll asshole 4/5 (good.)
2. world war 4 5/5 (nice vocals.)
3. mom and dad 3.5/5 (nice music.)
4. when i die 5/5 (great song, fast and short.)
5. oh no 3.5/5 (good.)
overall: 7.5/10 recommended
get the download above or look on ebay, unlikely you'll find anything thou.

SS Decontrol-Demo

ok, obviously i made the album cover art. the main reason is because this is not a record. i took the demo tracks from their Power record (compilation of some of their tracks). these 4 tracks are the only worth while tracks on that Power LP. this is better than any of their actually records. 4 songs in 2 and a half minutes. if i can figure out how to use archive.org i would upload these tracks, but for now, here are the songs.
1. control 5/5 (great.)
2. drug fools 5/5 (nice.)
3. typical 5/5 (best song they ever recorded and it's not even on any record.)
4. star wars 5/5 (all good.)
overall: 10/10 strongly recommended
i hope i can put these tracks on here because the only other way to get these songs is to get the Power LP and that is a waste of money.
(((DOWNLOAD: MUSIC)))

The Absentees-EP 7"

well, short post. a-side great and b-side bad. only 106 copies according to KBD. i know nothing about this band or release. but there is some good info at break my face. that's it.
1. tryin to mess with me 5/5 (great.)
2. F.U.M. 1/5 (bad.)
overall: 5/10 recommended (for a-side.)
thanks to KBD records, we can listen to this rarity.

Flag of Democracy-Love Songs 7"

this one's for elliott, congrats on 50 posts. i saw that you left a comment on this record on KBD, so i thought i'd review it myself. i've been holding off posting this for i long time, i don't know why. this 7" has a great recording, a lot of distortion. limited to a pressing of 500. this was reissued in the 90's but they changed the name to 8 love songs and added two tracks from their compilations.
1. powerload 5/5 (the breakdown is sweet.)
2. babysitter 4/5 (fast.)
3. meat factory 4/5 (nice.)
4. guidance counselor 3.5/5 (good bass.)
5. metamorphosis 3/5 (instrumental.)
6. love song 5/5 (great ender.)
overall: 8.5/10 strongly recommended
i see it on ebay quite often for being only 500 pressed. go to KBD for another must have.

Wasted Youth-Reagan's In 12"

yes a 12", i know i know, i never do 12"s, mainly because HC 12"s have so many songs that i would have to write down, but there is only 10 songs on this, so here we go. ok, there is a great mix of fast and slow songs on here. 1000 originally pressed, but a bootleg came out recently and from what i've heard, it's a good quality bootleg. here it is on ebay (good seller.) and of course everybody knows the famous picture on the back (the guy diving into the crowd).
1. reagan's in 5/5 (fast opener, no break.)
2. problem child 3/5 (good, slower.)
3. teenage nark 5/5 (fast, great.)
4. uni-high beefrag 3.5/5 (good, lyrics?)
5. born deprived 3.5/5 (good, holy soloing.)
6. fuck authority 4/5 (fast, nice song.)
7. you're a jerk 4/5 (nice.)
8. we were on herein 4/5 (good.)
9. punk for a day 1.5/5 (ok, this song is just too slow.)
10. flush the bouncer 5/5 (fast. originally called "search and destroy" on their demo, which makes sense, the chorus.)
overall: 7/10 recommended
one of the great 12"s out there, get your today: LA'S WY!
side note: i just noticed i used the guy diving into the crowd on my first introduction post.
side note: i just noticed i put a link to my own blog.

Shoot It Up-EP 7"

first off i want to say, i don't do drugs or drink alcohol, but i do like this 7". these guys are into drugs, i think. time for some pressing info, first press limited to 500 copies with a red cover, second press only limited to 300 copies with a pink cover (i have the second press). for being released in 2007, it's a little hard to find. they have released four 7"s but i've only heard the first two. their first 7" is decent but the cover it horrific (look it up). the band's site is here: DRUGS. great recording on this, it's so bad, that it's good.
1. pop 5/5 (best song.)
2. we know you know we know 4/5 (sweet.)
3. broadway glass 3/5 (good.)
4. bringing me home 2.5/5 (good too.)
5. black bars 3.5/5 (nice jungle drums at the beginning.)
6. high up in the sky 3.5/5 (don't know what he's saying, but it sounds good.)
overall: 6/10 recommended
a-side is all killer no filler, well not all killer some filler. (kbd)

Destroy L.A.-Vandalize 7"

first post of the new year. 69 posts in 2009, pretty decent, eh! ha, two years on the right column now, sweet! ok, enough of that.
this is a pretty decent 7". it's fast all the way through. at first i didn't like his voice but after listening to it again i like his voice, it grows on you. the cover above is from the first press of 1000, the second press of 1000 has the same cover but the colour is inverted. not much else to say, oh here's the band's site: DESTROY YOUR EARS!
1. your grave 5/5 (killer opening. slow, than fast.)
2. losing my mind 5/5 (best song, crazy fast, great vocals.)
3. bad habits 4/5 (nice.)
4. waste of life 2.5/5 (decent.)
5. step it up 3/5 (nice drumming.)
6. vandalize 3/5 (ok.)
overall: 7/10 recommended
the second press is really easy to get, but look for the first (i'm not a fan of the inverted cover).
